Background check website affiliate

Have you ever googled yourself and found your name on some website with partial info about you? I notice these sites usually link to an affiliate site for a full background check.

Where do they get all the information from to begin with? Is it legal to set that up?

All of the information is publicly available. Lots of mainstream companies have those offers.

WARNING: most of the background check websites are owned by the same top two debt collectors whose primary market is UK/IE/AU/CA/USA. They not only resell information which is licensed to them from various sources, but they get consumers themselves to proactively participate in the clean up and updating of the same published information.
