can I come and take a shit in your own private house? no?

why dont the right wing make their own platforms/houses/infrastructure/private property? oh right, it is because they would do the same if advertisers bitched about anything, they just want others to lose money LOL...it is because they do not believe in the freedom of others to do with their OWN property as they wish

cant wait for another "private company x will not lose money so that right wing x can make money on their platform" thread

when will the right wing understand that freedom of speech does not mean freedom to shit on somebodys private business interests?

OP should immediately get off the internet and go back to passing his days of throwing pennies and nickels out his window down to the little kids on their way to school as they pass by his 200 sf apt that sits above the towns hardware store.

Did you actually read what is in there? Or are you just purposely misrepresenting it? Or are you just stupid?

It was a presentation (obviously) dealing with the current issues that the big 3 tech companies are dealing with right now.

It did not reveal any "plans".

It merely stated what has been happening. Conjectured as to why it has been happening and stated what the effects have been and how the tech companies have attempted to deal with it. It reaches the conclusion that they have NOT done very well with the balancing act that the situation has created.

The presentation correctly identified that in the past the tech companies were taking a more American-Centric position regarding free speech (no regulation) and have recently, because of pressure from Users, Government and Advertisers, moved towards a more Euoropean-Centric position (tighter regulation).

In the final slides it offers up 9 principles to KICK START the conversation as to what they should or should not be doing as they try to find the right balance to please users, government and their advertisers.

Don't Take sides.
Police tone, not content.
Enforce standards and policies clearly.
Explain the technology.
Improve communications.
Take problems seriously.
Positive guidelines.
Better signposts.

This is how problems should be dealt with. If you cannot discuss the problem then you cannot find a solution, it really is that simple.

The solution they arrive at may very well be more censorship, it could just as easily be less censorship. It will probably be somewhere between the 2.

But this presentation does NOT offer up a plan or a solution. It is merely the beginning of a discussion regarding the issues that the tech firms are facing.

If the discussion never gets started, a solution will never be reached.

The big tech companies are facing a big problem.. It's that they believe they are the answer to ending "unwanted conversation" "nationalism" "everyone having a voice" "meeting like minded people" "anger venting" on a "unprecedented scale" and redirecting everyone back to "trustworthy sources" such as "Washington Post, NY Times, etc"

It literally says exactly that. They want to control the narrative... Control the conversation. Control the voice. Control people.

IE. It also points out a Trump quote about them as "conspiracy theory" that has in fact been proven as FACT as an example of why they must step up...

"Google's search engine was suppressing bad news about Hillary Clinton"

What if the "thought police" aren't on your side? Who going to police the police?

"The answer to 1984 is 1776"

No, it does not say exactly that. You have taken different pieces of various issues they are describing and lumped them together outside of their context.

I will only give one example because I am really tired of arguing with people who constantly try to twist the facts.

Your reference to unwanted conversations:

"Unwanted conversations" shows up once in the presentation, at the beginning, in the form of a question.

Quote:
Yet, amongst all this negativity, seeds of political harmony, gender and racial equality, and tolerance are sown on the internet. Is it possible to have an open and inclusive internet while simultaneously limiting political opperession and despotism, hate, violence and harassment? Who should be responsible for censoring 'unwanted' conversation, anyway? Governments? Users? Google?
That is the basis of the presentation. They have a problem. Users want it to go a certain way, Governments want it to go a certain way, Advertisers want it to go a certain way. The Tech companies are caught in the middle and are floundering around trying to find an answer that will satisfy everyone.

That is what the presentation is about. It is not about their plan to censor the internet, it is about how do they satisfy all customers.

As I said, it does not offer a solution, it is the beginning of a conversation.

It's not the beginning of a conversation when all 3 big players are currently targeting right leaning people and groups...

They're mad they lost.. And know they are caught trying to rig an election and caught trying to cover it up.. It might have been the beginning of them admitting they are doing exactly what they say in it.. Shutting down those with views different than theirs..

Putin opens the doors himself. It's like a marathon once unlocked because we can't wait to get to our cubicles and start bashing libs. I can't speak for the others but I'd do it free if I weren't in Russia.

They are not targeting "right leaning people and groups".

They are targeting "fake news" and "hate speech" of which about 98% comes from the alt-right and republicans.

The number 98% is based on research or your own imagination?

No, it is not possible to have an open and inclusive internet while limiting speech, while massaging visibility for what is supposedly wanted.

No matter what your political leaning, if you do not find this chilling, you haven't thought it through. You think nobody is coming for whatever you are, so you did not cry out.

Is Breitbart stamped on there because it was leaked to them? Do we know this creepy doc is legit an internal Google presentation?
