An honest man would shut up his critics and reassure his voter base...he would not let personal feelings stand before the needs of his country and would lead by example...a lot of his supporters are frustrated by the accusations so him revealing his honest taxes would be beneficial to his cause...it would make other honest tax payers respect him...
