Trump needs to understand that not everything is a zero sum game. There has to be enough of a compromise so each side gets something they want/need in a business negotiation, otherwise it's just a robbery.

Trump does not understand what a trade surplus is.
Trump does not understand that US businesses make money by using low cost Chinese manufacturing to supply wealthy US consumers. That is what trade is. Making money by exploiting the cost difference in goods and services from different parts of the world. The trade surplus is not "being ripped off by China". That is an immature and foolish position to take. So now the idiot claims that the trade war makes money for the US and that China pays for it. Nothing could be further from the truth. US businesses and consumers pay the tariffs. Even a blind man on a galloping horse can see that.

The trade war started January 22, 2018 The stock market stopped it's upward trend January 26, 2018 It's been 17 months and our stock market levels today are lower than they were January 26th. Our trade gap with China is at world record levels, the highest it's ever been in history. Congress had to give emergency funding to our farmers because China is not buying their goods, that emergency funding stopped right after the midterms. Now our electronics and steel from China are going to have increased tariffs of 25%. So in the end I think that either the administration has done it incorrectly and they won't be successful or China is better at the American businesses they put tariffs on than we are with their their businesses we put tariffs on, because the trade gap has increased tremendous amount and that's a win for China. |

China started its trade war against us almost 3 decades ago. Thanks to a combination of corruption and incompetence by our previous 4 Presidents, it was allowed to continue with no consequences. But now we finally have a President who serves the American people, rather than serving Wall Street and the Banksters (or whichever Chinaman writes him a check). It's quite refreshing to see a President fighting for us on the trade front, though there's still a long way to go. |

Your understanding of basic economics and global trade is just behind your Orange Leader. Less than zero. Well done. What exactly is it you think you are fighting against ? The west has high manufacturing costs. The east does not. Its fucking simple really.

^^^ This..
Obviously something needed to be done about China manipulating it's currency, and stealing tech ect.. on the flip side if companies are willing to subject themselves to risk of theft for financial gains are they not the ones to blame? The whole thing is fucked up situation and everyone loses.. While something needed to be done I think Trump has fucked shit up more than he's helped. He doesn't surround himself with smart people who understand it and he isn't smart enough to do it himself. Just look at the Mexico deal it wasn't even really better than the old deal and it's fallen apart already..

Here is a clue - it has nothing to do with the failure of past Presidents. The consumer decides. You and I are the consumers, and we buy on price. We have no one else to blame. You need to grow up and realise that your President is playing every tune in the populist hymn book. Its all the fault of the pesky foreigners. Hitler had the Jews, in the UK they blame the EU, and Trump serves up China and those filthy rapists from the Southern border. So Trump is going to reverse the cost base inequality of east and west with tariffs, it would be funny but the silly twat is actually serious. Trade wars are easy to win said the orange fool, and dolts like you go Ra Ra Ra.

Because our governments have sold us out. They've decided that corporate profits are more important than society's well-being. Fortunately, we finally have a President who is fighting for the American people, rather than fighting for Wall Street. |

Consumers buy on price. They choose the goods and services that satisfy their requirements at the best possible price. They do not give a fuck if it costs jobs. They do not give a fuck where it was made. You are a liar if you claim to be any different. But at least you will be in good company. See sig for further infos.

How quaint.
This is the Economics 101 lecture put out there by basic bitch libertarians and conservatives, but in the real world it doesn't work that way. In reality, corporations and governments manipulate the markets to maximize their own profits and power. The consumer's desires and society's best interests are not even a consideration. At least not until the current President was elected. |

patriotism stops at the wallet...it is capitalist culture to throw each other under the bus in the name of profits...you are going after each other like a pack of wolves and it is beautiful to watch...the weak are being sacrificed first, the minorities, the low skilled, the poor etc...blaming the spoon for making you fat is the very essence of american culture
the west grew fat exploiting the rest of the world...now that level of fat is hard to maintain and the beauty of it is: the more you fight against it, the harder it is to keep fighting fat people do not win races...

Who here wants to work on a 500 workers assembly line, stiching shoes or gluing leds on a plastic strips... If enough, Trump will open a factory in the USA,beside the one where he manufactures his ties ..

Which is 100% wrong. 50+ years ago I worked in the garment industry. This was a time when Honk Kong started to export cheap real rubbish clothing into the UK. Today china is a leading countries in G5 technology, being asked to build nuclear power stations, turn over any computer of phone and they're made in China or similar, HSBC are leading bankers and now exports so much it's a major world economy. Will it stop now or will they want even more of the West's industries and finance?
When will China make all your cars, vans and trucks? What industries will China leave the West? Unless a re-balance of trade is achieved what jobs are left, who will buy what you're trying to sell. Stupid people think this will reduce prices in the West, it's because prices are so low on goods made in the 3rd that we've allowed them to take so much. Stupid people point to the stock markets and the way they've dropped. Large corporations are geared and profit from the export of our jobs, don't expect them to offer any help. US and EU businesses make money by using low cost Chinese manufacturing to supply wealthy US consumers. While the rest are getting poorer. The wealthy consumers had better be careful unless they are employed by a Chinese company. China shows no signs of stopping it's advance at the expense of the West. |

Working beats being unemployed in two ways. The people who have lost a future and the people who now have to pay them. Unfortunately every job lost doesn't mean that person disappears, he still needs money to survive.

This morning I watched an interview on the news where a soybean farmer has been unable to sell his soybean crop for two years. He is now fully depending on the government to survive.
The Republican party is stunning. Heaven forbid if someone falls on hard time and needs $20k of green stamps to feed their family, but if a farm needs $1.2 million to get by we'll shell out billions without batting an eyelid.

Look at Europe, where we have a more honest way of counting the unemployed. Czech is doing great, we're sending our un-needed workers to Germany, UK, etc and getting their businesses. |
