![]() Hi all,
New here, first post. I just started a Virtual Reality nude photography site. No hardcore porn, only Playboy style nudity. For those who don't understand VR: imagine putting on a headset and standing in front of a nude model, like time is standing still. I think it's an awesome product, but it's also a really small niche. I don't know how to get (organic) traffic. I'm willing to work for it, not pay for it, for now. I'm already participating in some facebook groups around Virtual Reality. I'm also in contact with a VR content platform aimed at the consumer, like the Flickr of VR, who really like my content and might set up a paywall for me. I have started a youtube channel, which is quickly growing (200 subscribers in 4 weeks, I average about 500-1000 views per video). I'm doing launch sales, giving free images to sign up to my newsletter, doing a black friday sale. I have started a facebook group where I post at least two times a week. I have tried leveraging my existing network in model photography (about 4000 followers) I have created a video of people reacting to watching my content in VR, which actually got a lot of people curious. I don't want to link my site to hardcore porn, it's more in the Playboy / Penthouse atmosphere. I'm affraid that if my site is linked to porn, some models might not pose for me anymore. Plus I think it might set my site apart. I'm aiming more for a "suicide girls" type of website. No porn, but clearly aimed at men, within a niche (tattoos / VR) Any other recommendations on how to get more traffic? Also, as I'm new here, I'm not sure if it is allowed to post the link to my site. I would really like some people who have VR headsets and want to try out my site (plenty of free content). Does this forum allow for a call for testers? :-) |

Hi. First off, send a free headset to well respected, well trusted members with high poostcounts over 30 thousand or so (People like myself) so we can try it out and give feedback

Haha, nice try. :-) I actually do sell cheap vr headsets on my website as an "easy entry" into VR. I do it with an affiliate link, but I don't expect to earn much, if anything on that. I actually don't like people watching the images on a cheap cardboard thing. :-) When you watch it on a cheap headset, it feels "gimmicky", while on a "real" headset, it looks like you're actually there. :-)

Sure! With pleasure! I wasn't sure if I could post the url.
Actually, I just tried it and got a message that I'm not allowed to post url's until I made at least 30 posts. I'll try to do that asap. :-) In the meanwhile, the website is called VR Model Photography When I look for it, it appears 3rd place on google, but that might be just for my PC. I'll post the link asap. I made the website myself. I'm posting new content every 2 weeks and I have content ready until march now. (If all goes well, I will be creating 8 weeks of content this week). I'm hoping to ramp up the speed to 1 new gallery / week and when I'm able to do that, I might be going from a pay per download system to a subscription based system (or probably a combination of both). Since it's not hardcore porn, I might use Patreon as an extra channel. I agree that most people in the VR sector already own the necessary hardware. It's just really difficult to reach those people. My product is too NSFW for most virtual reality groups on social media and not hardcore enough to use tradition porn outlets to promote it. Google ads are useless I think, because I don't think anybody is really "looking" for my product. I do believe that once I can get relevant traffic, and ramp up my onboarding and follow up, I'm going to have a pretty good retention rate. Anybody that tried my images, was pretty enthusiastic about it. Thanks for the tip about reddit. Indeed, one of my youtube video's got 11K views in under 1 week and I eventually tracked the source to somebody posting it on reddit. :-) |

This page isn’t working
vrmodelphotography.com is currently unable to handle this request. https://www.vrmodelphotography.com/about/ So I found it and did it for you. If you shoot softcore you're up against the Met Art level of sites, offering VR doesn't mean much. You have to offer their level of models, locations, photography, lingerie, etc. Otherwise you'll spend more money on models than you'll take in memberships. |

If you know that niche is small, then you know what are the keywords people are looking for in your niche? If the niche is small, this means there is probably no competition for it or it is weak and easy to beat them. It seems you are facing a few problems same as the other new website. - a small amount of content to be able to compete with big sites - no organic traffic - low domain authority ( TF0/ CF0) which means you won't get any organic with this - thin content ( no food for search engines) Without last two, you won't get organic traffic.

Thanks for all the responses. I’ll answer them chronologically :-)
@Rabbit: thank you very much for the offer. Unfortunately, I have an additional roadblock. The models on my website have agreed to be on my website, but I’m promoting my website as a “photography related” website. For now, I can’t openly promote it as a porn website. If one of them found their images on an actual porn-related website, there will be hell to pay I think. I will keep this in mind for later (see later in my post here, promoting it as a porn site is in my “roadmap”) @Paul: I’m not sure if I have to compete with Met Art, because currently, as far as I know, I’m the only one doing softcore VR still photography. I do believe that if this becomes a succes story, I will be rapidly overtaken by people doing a better job than me. At that point, I will have to up my game. I hope to have made enough money by then to invest into better models, locations, gear, ... By the way, the models themselves are doing this for “TFP” for me. I’m not sure if this is a known term in the porn sector? Basically, it’s an exchange of time and services. They do this for me and I provide them some “2D” images for their portfolio. I’m a pretty well established art nude photographer (23 years of experience) and most of the models on my site are people that I’ve worked with a lot before. I do aim to have enough revenue to start booking models. At that point, I might delete all the “TFP” shoots and just be up front with the booked model and say it’s a porn site. But I’m still figuring things out. In the first place, I would like to make this work as a non-porn site and offer Playboy-level content. @femdomdestiny: Indeed, the niche is VERY small, as in “only me”. lol And that is my main problem. There are no keywords, because nobody is actually “looking” for what I’m offering. People are generally looking for VR video. But I’m sure that once they experience still photography, there is a market for that too. I just have to find a way to “create” a demand. That is what, in essence, my post is about. :-) @celandina: looks like sadiedassle already handled your question. :-)

If you can't go the porn route go the social route. Reddit and Twitter are very sexuality friendly and love this kind of material.

The reason that Met Art level aren't doing VR is they feel it adds nothing to their bottom line. Once you take on the Playboy end of porn you compete with other established Playboy level sites for their surfers money. Hoping in the future to have enough money to up your game isn't going to work. Are you currently working as a full time photographer specialising in Playboy type material or working as a manager in an unrelated business? Because the other Playboy level sites have full time photographers working for them and have the money to spend on VR equipment and models. Sites offering VR have full time photographers offering surfers what they want. So offering them only VR Playboy level isn't going to find a large audience. Even if all the girls, locations, make up, lingerie etc were Playboy level. Which this is https://www.google.com/search?tbm=is...eRBCR4Q4dUDCAc |

For starters, it’s 360 video not VR. If you’re going to be investing money into something, it’s best to at least know what you’re attempting to do.
![]() I’ve got a nice Insta360 Pro that we shoot client projects on. Super cool technology. |

Thanks, I had no idea it was loading so slow. I have no idea why, the homepage barely contains any media. I'll check it out.

Was that directed at me? Because I don't know where you are getting the 360 video from. I'm shooting 3D 180 images. I do also create youtube video, behind the scenes material as the top of my funnel, but they are also in 3D VR180 format. I'm not creating anything in the 360 format.

I work 40 hours a week as a manager in an unrelated business and another 30 hours as a photographers, for which about 80% is overhead, so not 30 billable hours. Currently I'm making about 15K a year in revenue as a photographer. If that I could just earn 500 - 1000 dollar / month with my website, I could cover future expenses and still save some money. So I'm not in it to go do this full time, it's just a project to me. Currently I work low risk, so if it doesn't work out, it's not "the" worst ... but still, I'm investing a LOT of time and energy into this, so I do hope this will take off. :-) To be clear, when I talk about "Playboy level", I don't mean their style, I'm more talking about the fact that their models don't do hardcore porn. Maybe comparing my site to suicidegirls (and I'm not comparing it in any way in terms of size or professionalism) is a better analogy. They are doing mainly photography, softcore and have been succesful because of a niche. I was hoping to find my own niche as a photographer, something nobody else is doing at the moment. But yeah ... there might be a reason why nobody is doing it. haha

The "real" VR headsets start off from about 400 dollar, with some older generation headsets like the Ocolus go for 200 dollar.

By the way, any comments on the pricing of my sets?
I am still experiencing with price levels, so there is no "set" price. But most of my sets range from 20-30 images for 10-12 euro (which is about 12-15 dollar). I feel that this might be on the high side, but It gives me a chance to do promotions and to drop prices as I go, instead of increasing prices if I undervalued my content.

What ever your niche is you need to spend a lot of money in today's market to give surfers an appealing product. The days of putting up a few sets and videos of those sets being shot was 20 years ago. Being VR, 3D, HD and any other format doesn't do that. |
