pc question....

is there any difference between AMD and Intell chip sets as far as performance and hardware/software compatibility? there is about $500 difference in system prices....

Right now, AMD are offering more bang for your buck than intel are. Better Clock Speed, more threads etc. They are pretty much kicking intels ass as far as reviews go.

And yes, they are cheaper too

And to be honest, I built a high end PC myself about a month ago, and I went intel, mostly due to scare stories of AMD chips not being compatible with most motherboards etc...

Anyway, that has pretty much been sorted out already now, and while I don't regret my intel i7 9700K choice, and being perfectly happy with my system, given whats happened in the last month or so, I could have got an even more powerful system, for less money, had I gone AMD.

But whos to say that next month, it would still be the same?

nobody beats Intel in single core performance.
and many apps are still using single cores. so if i were you and money is not problem get Intel.

if you want room heater get AMD else Intel.

if you want higher energy bills get AMD else Intel.

good luck.

I get pc's from velocity mico.... they will build either system. this way all the components will match up. my understanding is not all software can use multicore processors.... need PS and vegas video plus ms word, that's about it....

That's completely sensible. I built mine with gaming in mind

Just purchase an AIO liquid cooling setup. They're fairly cheap now.

I've run nothing but AMD for years and never once had an issue with the CPU, motherboards or cooling. I'm still running an older FX8320 overclocked to 4GHz with a cheap Zalman CNPS5X cooler, dual R9 270x video cards and 24GB ram. Currently running at 260-280 watts with a ton of things open across three monitors.

That says it all. My AMD machine can keep me warm all winter. Sucks in the summer though. in my 12x14 office, the AMD machine will heat up the room 3-5 degrees all by itself.

I run intel for intensive 6k vr rendering and am pretty pleased. I know that intel handles cuda really well so that is the deal maker for me. I guess it is a matter of trust and reliable performance history.

How long are AMD CPU's lasting? I mean I've my current i5 something for 7+ years (?) and it still works fine... I haven't touched the system since then, only swapped out one HDD which failed in my raid.. All super quite (low noise fans etc)..

Phenom II x6 here, bought in 2011 if I remember good, I was choosing between I7 and AMD. Works without sweating and I run three monitors, shitload of browser windows and multitasking all the time. Based on info from win gadgets, it is never under pressure and struggling to do what it takes.

I don't do video editing or only some minimal clip preparation sometimes. Planing to buy a new system next year probably and will go with AMD again.

Actually if I remember right then I used to have more issues with shitty motherboards instead of CPU's (had both AMD's, Intel's before)

AMD CPU's destroy intel when it comes to anything like video editing, streaming, etc..

and for gaming they're basically the same..

and AMD is less expensive.

So AMD wins

RAMs (at least quality ones) are holding so far pretty nicely, no problems whatsoever.. but yeah as mentioned above I had a HDD failure in my RAID. Also I was stupid enough to pick two HDD's for my raid from the exact same vendor, type, also batch lol but the second one is still holding up somehow
