Is it illegal to use other website names in my domain name?
If I were to create a website along the lines of redditwhores.com or bestofpornhub.com
will domains like these which use other website names create legal headaches in the future? Thanks |

For example, try using FaceBook in any possible way and watch how fast their lawyers will descend on you. On the other hand I'm fairly certain that JoeIdiot.com won't give a damn and will leave you alone.

Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act
The below list of factors that a court will consider to determine whether the domain name was registered in bad faith. - Does the domain name holder have trademark rights in the domain name? - Is the domain name the legal name of the domain name holder, or some other name that is otherwise commonly used to identify that person? - Has the domain name holder made use (prior to the dispute) of the domain name in connection with a bona fide sale of goods or services? - Is the domain name holder using the mark in a bona fide noncommercial or fair use way at a web site accessible at the domain name? - Is the domain name holder attempting to divert consumers from the trademark owner's web site in a confusing way, either for commercial gain or in an attempt to tarnish or disparage the trademark mark? - Has the domain name holder offered to sell the domain name to the trademark owner (or anyone else) for financial gain without having any intent to use the mark with the sale of goods or services? - Has the domain name holder behaved in a pattern of registering and selling domain names without intending to use them in connection with the sale of goods or services? - Did the domain name holder provide false information when applying for the registration of the domain name (or do so in connection with other domain names)? - Has the domain name holder registered domain names of other parties trademarks? - How distinctive and famous is the trademark owner's trademark?

it's not really about legality -- it's about who has more money / better lawyers -- and do they care or not reddit will definitely cease-and-desist you (and seize your domain) pornhub? much less likely randompornsite.com ? you're fine. I had a large mainstream dating site cease-and-desist me (and take the domain) for using a name similar to theirs. And, webmasters rip my domain names sometimes -- I don't mind at all, its flattering and probably good for my SEO. |

Don't even waste your time. If it ever amounts to shit and gets on their radar, they will 1) (if you're lucky) easily take it from you or 2) Sue you in federal court for cybersquatting and potentially cost you 100s of thousands in legal fees and judgements.
Don't be stupid. |

Respectfully, you're wrong. Various entities that in one way or another are Manwin/MindGeek/PornHub, regularly go after anyone they feel is stepping on their IP rights. And they win.
The rare acception, where they lost can be read here: https://www.adrforum.com/DomainDecisions/1841075D.htm

There should be a system to prevent companies who sell domain names to offer such domains.

Anyone smart with trademarks has a notification search running and will know you registered the domain before it’s even in use. I would. Don’t bother!

The other day I auto generated a list of LLcams.com and found one that was unregistered, but that LL in the domain name is a well known company trademark.
If I bought it and made it clear that the LL in the name means something else and I don't make the logo or anything else similar, will I be ok?

I wouldn't take a chance on the potential offending domain being in a different market myself. I'd only think about how assiduously the trademark owner defends it. But who knows? Quote:

If it's a company that likes to sue or take legal action though, and the site isn't just a throwaway, I would say it's not worth the potential hassle. Visitors won't care what the domain is and LLcams.com names are not really valuable or rare; there are hundreds of them available. In the list beIow I see at least four potential well-known brands/names - DC, EA, FT, HP - and I've seen MG used by MindGeek. Notably absent is FBcams.com, which has been registered for 10 years. I don't think any of these are very good, unless targeting AU or NZ, but the least worst is maybe FFcams. Double letters are popular, as can be seen by the fact all others are taken. Code:
aecams.com ajcams.com aucams.com aycams.com bkcams.com blcams.com bmcams.com bpcams.com bqcams.com bucams.com bvcams.com bxcams.com bzcams.com ckcams.com clcams.com cpcams.com cqcams.com ctcams.com cvcams.com dccams.com dgcams.com dkcams.com dncams.com dtcams.com dwcams.com dzcams.com eacams.com eccams.com efcams.com egcams.com ehcams.com eicams.com ejcams.com ekcams.com emcams.com eocams.com eqcams.com ercams.com etcams.com eycams.com fccams.com fdcams.com fecams.com ffcams.com fhcams.com fjcams.com fmcams.com fncams.com focams.com fpcams.com fqcams.com ftcams.com fvcams.com fwcams.com fycams.com fzcams.com gecams.com gicams.com gjcams.com glcams.com gncams.com gpcams.com grcams.com gscams.com gtcams.com gucams.com gycams.com gzcams.com hfcams.com hmcams.com hncams.com hpcams.com hucams.com hwcams.com hzcams.com iacams.com ibcams.com iecams.com ihcams.com ikcams.com ivcams.com iycams.com jacams.com jccams.com jdcams.com jfcams.com jgcams.com jhcams.com jicams.com jkcams.com jlcams.com jmcams.com jncams.com jqcams.com jscams.com jtcams.com jucams.com jxcams.com jzcams.com kacams.com kfcams.com kgcams.com khcams.com kjcams.com klcams.com kncams.com kpcams.com kqcams.com krcams.com kscams.com ktcams.com kxcams.com kycams.com kzcams.com lccams.com ldcams.com lmcams.com lncams.com lqcams.com lrcams.com lwcams.com lzcams.com mgcams.com mkcams.com mqcams.com mucams.com mzcams.com ndcams.com necams.com ngcams.com nqcams.com nrcams.com ntcams.com nzcams.com oacams.com odcams.com oecams.com oicams.com ojcams.com olcams.com oqcams.com ovcams.com owcams.com oycams.com pacams.com pdcams.com pecams.com pfcams.com pgcams.com pjcams.com pncams.com pqcams.com pucams.com pwcams.com pycams.com pzcams.com qacams.com qbcams.com qccams.com qdcams.com qecams.com qfcams.com qgcams.com qhcams.com qicams.com qjcams.com qkcams.com qlcams.com qmcams.com qncams.com qocams.com qpcams.com qrcams.com qscams.com qucams.com qvcams.com qwcams.com qxcams.com qycams.com qzcams.com racams.com rdcams.com rgcams.com ricams.com rjcams.com rncams.com rpcams.com rqcams.com rwcams.com rycams.com rzcams.com sncams.com sqcams.com swcams.com sycams.com szcams.com tccams.com tdcams.com tfcams.com thcams.com tpcams.com tqcams.com tycams.com tzcams.com udcams.com uecams.com ufcams.com ugcams.com uhcams.com uicams.com ujcams.com umcams.com uocams.com uqcams.com uxcams.com uycams.com uzcams.com vccams.com vdcams.com vecams.com vfcams.com vgcams.com vhcams.com vlcams.com vmcams.com vqcams.com vwcams.com vycams.com vzcams.com wccams.com wdcams.com wfcams.com wjcams.com wkcams.com wmcams.com wncams.com wqcams.com wrcams.com wscams.com wtcams.com wvcams.com wzcams.com xecams.com xfcams.com xhcams.com xjcams.com xkcams.com xqcams.com xwcams.com xzcams.com ybcams.com yccams.com yfcams.com ygcams.com yhcams.com yjcams.com ykcams.com ylcams.com yncams.com yqcams.com yrcams.com yscams.com ytcams.com yucams.com yvcams.com ywcams.com yxcams.com yzcams.com zbcams.com zccams.com zdcams.com zfcams.com zgcams.com zhcams.com zjcams.com zkcams.com zlcams.com zmcams.com zncams.com zpcams.com zqcams.com zrcams.com zscams.com zvcams.com zwcams.com zycams.com

So far I just put up a WL until I get around to making an API cam site with it, but I already got about 60 uniques to it according to CB stats (I didn't put GA on it yet, too lazy lol) So someone knows about it, or just some bots, not sure yet. Archive.org says nothing good has been on it for 10 years, so I don't think it's old links lol

There's only one "cams.com" domain, so there's a justification for using variants with extra letters, and it wouldn't pass the "moron in a hurry" test; nobody is going to confuse an adult webcam site with an electronics company.

G'day Guys,
I was sued by the Speedo Corporation (who owns that these days) for using speedo on my gay sites. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...s-lawsuit.html I argue that I use the word generically but understand them trying to protect it. It was in civil court here in Australia and I couldn't afford to defend it. Lost the domain but took them two years and the free mainstream press I got was mind blowing. From memory had 10x joins when it hit the front page of the business section of the papers. My business has always been structured to protect my privacy and assets so I didn't mind, if my name was on it not sure I'd want that kind of press though. Dave

You should have claimed fair use by using the term as a parody.
There is a site at DonaldFuck.com WHOIS says the domain was created 2001-06-13.

Don't spend your time with a name that may cause problems. Make up your own name using two common short words.

Fb took a domain right from my account. No email, domain lock, nothing. Blackpeoplemeet was pretty huge at this time and I wanted blackpeopleskeet but the fb thing freaked me out. I think comedy central owns that name now.

It's unusual that they didn't go through normal UDRP proceedings, but it sounds like they went directly to your registrar's legal department with a claim of TM infringement.

I registered quarterbackclub.com back in 1998 & was going to do some fantasy football on it but never did.
Some lawyer sent me nasty letters telling me they held the trademark for it & said they were going to sue me for the domain ownership. Never heard from them (or anyone else for that matter) again & I still own the domain. I did own montgomerywards.com and they to sent me a nasty letter and the lawyer took a tone with me I didn't like so I sent him an email telling him to swallow my cock and pointed the domain to sears.com The next day he changed his tone & he offered to buy it from me for some nice cash |

Not worth it to use somebody else's name.
You can do something like UPSCams.xxx And UPS the shipping company cannot say shit about it, though they will. So long as you don't skin the site to look like their brown theme, use anything near their logo, etc. But using pornhub? They will come at you quickly and they will get the domain so you will have wasted your time.

I've owned a Marvel character name .com for 20 years and never heard anything from Marvel or Disney about it. Of course, I also didnt make porn cartoons and promote it either. I used it for something completely different.
