Not talking about using embed codes, actual videos.

By Default wordpress does not generate thumbnails for videos. Im currently working on something when you upload a video you can do a few things, play the video in the media modal and select pick frame, you can also select first frame as thumbnail, you can have it generate 10 thumbnails in the browser and you select which one to use. this is all done in the browser without ffmpeg.

Question i have is for part 2 of the plugin, what style do you prefer for animated thumbs on hover on the frontend.

Two methods are available really, generate a bunch of thumbs and cycle through them on hover. and the other method which is newer that i have seen of use more (kvs) is generate a preview.mp4 and preview.webm and that is shown on hover.

Curious what method you guys like the best.

thumb cycle or preview video on hover.

I think the preview on hover is more smooth, the cycle of thumbs looks more choppy.

Part 2 wont require ffmpeg either, as im impolementing ffmpeg.wasm incase the user is on shared hosting or doesnt have access to install ffmpeg/

First question is: is there really a need for this? Anyone trying to grow a self-hosted tube will quickly learn that WP isn’t going to scale well

wasnt really at first meant for large scale system (the first part of the plugin) was really meant as a way to generate thumbnails for uploads since wp doesnt handle that, saving time for creating thumbs on your own to upload.

wasnt really even meant for adult, was more meant for creating your thumbnails for videos easier in wordpress, especially if you have no thumbnails, and you are uploading a lot of videos.

2nd part of the plugin isnt a for sure yet, as im stil messing with wasm version of ffmpeg
