Regardless, I see this as part of the Indian government's attempts at trying to replicate China's success.

My gut feeling is the path to unleashing India's total economic potential lies in:
- free trade / free markets
- reduced government size
- less regulations
- lower taxes
- privatization

Not gonna happen anytime soon due to political realities. Reference: massive protests when Modi tried to reform Indian agriculture

I think in this modern era most of jobs do not require long hours, but more efficient hours. Only pure psychical activities require long hours, like building a house.

It should be a choice. It may work for some companies and not others and for some people and not others. Most rich people are workaholics and can do this easy. If you're not rich but had an emergency and needed the money you would just do it to survive and after the first week it would become a norm for you.
