The History of GFY

My husband first registered in 2001 and had a long sleeve GFY T-Shirt sent to him by Lensman as being one of the first 50 to register on GFY.

He attended many GFY gatherings.

Recently with a few other "older" webmasters he was on a podcast reliving the history of online adult industry.

How many other places have gone by the wayside?

GONE:
PornResource
iBill
CozyFrog

DEAD:
Paul Markham: Photographer, probably one of the best ever (Heart Failure, cancer)
David Lace: Photographer, one of the largest ever collections (Heart attack)
JFPDude: Content guy, photographer (Drug Overdose)
Turboface: Traffic, scammer (Patrick Tither, suicide)
TurboAngel: Traffic, scammer (Last information was rehab, then silence)
LowKeyTx: Photographer, arrested for child p***, (James Greuel, Cancer)
GraphicsByTia: Graphics, Banners, Buttons (Suicide)

So many webmasters have died from this forum that actually helped shape the adult industry, it is now a skeleton of what it once was.

Looking at PRE 2005 webmasters, how many are actually left here on GFY?

Paul had cancer but his actual cause of death was from Heart Failure. I know it's anal to write that, but even his wife said it was heart failure.

One of the best photographers in the world for Adult Images, hands down, ever.

I updated it for you.

I wish I still had my GFY shirt, mine was long sleeve red one, so not the first 50 but a later stage. I think I originally joined in late 2001.

MaxCash (Bottos, MikeFold, etc...) - What was that shitty magazine they did for a yr or so after shuttering MaxCash?
WebOverdrive (Snoops/Dondrea & Karen)
TomsNewbieBooster (A cool guy, met him in London several years back when we met Aga at Spearmint Rhinos one night)
NetPond
AdutRevenueService (Marc & Becky Deforest, JohnV)

Plus a ton more of the 'names' from back in the day.

Don't forget Marc Womack we lost not too long ago.

I didn't know TurboFace and TurboAngel passed. I knew too many of these names in real life.

Dirty D, Jfk. The list is getting long.

Can you please identify the podcast you're referring to, many of us would like to listen to it.

Didn't realize Turboface and Turboangel were scammers. I knew they split up and had some financial struggles.

Also Mayya, your English is vastly improved from all your previous posting, are you sure this isn't your boyfriend posting this?

Most of us are crazy in some way, shape or form and the adult industry isn't exactly 'easy' on a persons overall mental health and wellbeing, its probably one of the most stress inducing career choices a person can make, learning new marketing techniques regularly, adjusting products being promoted, dealing with shady sponsors, surfers, affiliates, billing companies that go bust or delay payments, programs closing sites down left and right, the list of things that are negative is endless... That said, there are a ton of positives to be had, id venture a guess it depends on the person and how well they can handle stress, personal life and balancing it with the adult industry.

I do wonder how the suicide rate when it comes to those working 'online' marries up to those offline , like-to-like figure wise.

RIP to PersianKitty. JFK too.

Whatever happened to Amputate Your Head and FletchXXX? I think Amp said he had cancer and then kinda disappeared? What about Fletch?

Remember once upon a time, people would sell their sig for $1000-1500 a month?

Remember you'd save milestone posts for big announcements? And now here I am making my 5000th post with this comment.

I wouldn't be surprised, I'm sure those who were really well known had behind-the-scenes deals that would've been in that range. Industry nobodies who were just post whores were making $1000+ and even guys with a few hundred posts could make an extra $300.

I remember Lensman and Adult.com were paying something like 25 cents a post instead of a flat rate. Companies like Adult.com, TCG and Quickbuck were spending 10s of thousands a month on sigs. It didn't last long but what a wild time it was!

Some people were boosting up to 15k deals.

How much they were actually paid is a different question, but the larger the official sum the better both for the poster and the affiliate program. Makes the poster look like a baller and the affiliate program comes off as stacked and successful.

Win win!

Does anyone here remember Mediaguy? He was a good guy who worked for me. Very likeable, very smart... he had a crazy-bad problem with alcohol as those who know him would confirm. He did not pass away, but he went broke and homeless back in 2014 and is still homeless today, 10 years later. It's incredibly sad. I want to hope that one day he will pull himself back up but after 10 years, I don't think he will.

I was thinking of him but couldn't remember his name, that guy I met in Miami and seemed off his rocker, then couple years later heard he killed himself. Sucks what he did to you and the others, but he never seemed like a trustworthy type of guy. You seem like you have good judgement Fuze, why'd you let your guard down???
