Why do people assume you want all their forwarded junk mail?
I recently got an email from a guy I used to live next door to when I was a kid. I literally haven't talked to him 20 years. He remembered my name, googled me and found my website. So we have been emailing back and forth for the last week and a couple of days ago he asked me to help him with his website. He runs a wedding DJ business and is trying to build a site for it. He has offered to pay me (although I should do it for free because I lost my virginity to his sister's best friend) and we have been kicking ideas back and forth.
Today I got about 10 emails from him all that are forwarded chain letters and junk. Why do people automatically assume that I want all their forwarded junk, jokes, and funny pictures? |

Do you really believe that people think when they forward that crap? You're in his address book, so you're pretty much automatically included...

You are so right. I just hit the little plus next to the CC list on the email and there must be 200 names in there. I think it is everyone he has ever gotten an email from.

Back in the day I would always put a .cjb.net redirect link on that crap and send it back to the fucker who mailed it to me. Funny enough, I'd get email registrations (I was pushing EZ-green back in 2000).
This was my way of "surfing" the flow of the chain email. The best "host" social mail were those scary chain emails that say bad things will happen to you if you don't forward the email lolz. Anyway, things haven't changed much with online marketing--find a website where people congregate and let your marketing message ride their communications. Works with group mail sites, social network sites, wherever and whenever people pass information back and forth and to non-members. |
