Apple Cinema Display - How do I make the screen smaller?

Hi Guys,

Just picked up a 30" but when I plug it in, the highest resolution displayed is 1280x800 to choose from and everything on the screen is so huge. Help!!!???

Does your video card handle 2560X1600? If you're plugging into a Macbook Pro...I'm not sure they can max out at that resolution, but I might be wrong.

I know when I plugged my 30' into the MBP it didn't support 2560X1600.

You can make your screen smaller by trading the cinema display for my 20inch

the MBP 15" can handle more than that - even its built-in size is 1440x900

In system preferences/Displays, 1280x800 is really the max resolution displayed (make sure colors is set to millions)? How old is this G5??

About 2 years old. It displays higher resolution selection for the 22" but not for the cinema display. It is is about 3 years old

In the Apple menu -> About this Mac -> More info (opens system profiler). Under Hardware->Graphics/Displays, the info on max resolution should be shown

Video card upgrade. Probably $250+ range. The cards are pricey compared to their better spec'd PC counterparts.

Yeah, I do agree - I'm very mobile with my MBP, so I use Bookendz in the office to connect all the peripherals and external display.

Used like that with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, it's awesome - 2 screens, and when I need to go with the MBP, simply unlock the dock, and I'm on the road and portable.
