I just sent my baby for his first overnight trip... NOW I understand how parents feel

Unreal. I have no idea how we let my parents take him for the night.. I mean I was SURE they were going to crash their car on the way home, and my wife was going to hate me forever, and...

Man it's a total mindfuck. He's like almost 14 months old now

Every caring parent feels like this, but mark my words by the time they are teenagers you will want to give them away for ever

hell ya!! I'm STILL nervous, and we've already called to make sure they arrived safely..

What's craziest is I'm a FULL believer in letting your kids fall down, get hurt, cry, get their hearts broken, learn from their own mistakes, etc..

But when you're 100% responsible for another person, it's hard to give up that control, no matter what your head says is logical.

It is understandable.

About 3 years ago my brother was taking his then 9 year old daughter to her first sleepover. A friend of her's from school was having a slumber party/birthday party. This is the first time she was staying the night at a non-family member house. My brother is nervous as it is then he gets there, sees the parents (he had spoken to them a few times on the phone before and thought they were good people) and sees that wife is missing half of her teeth and he spins around and takes her back to the car. He couldn't leave his daughter with them. She was pissed, but he said she looked like a meth head so he wasn't going to do it.

As it turns out she had been in a car accident about 4 months before and was still waiting for some other surgery before she got her teeth fixed so there was nothing to worry about. During the drive home his daughter explained this so when he got home he called them back and apologized then drove her back.

Wow Kane that's an interesting story.. I probably would have done the same thing.. Who wants to leave their kids with strange people? But then again you have to trust someone in this world or you'll just be a paranoid wreck.

For instance the first pediatrician my son went to made the news one day we noticed.. Because he was a pedophile!! In fact he'd been charged before, but somehow was still allowed to be a practicing doctor - as long as you didn't have a DAUGHTER... He was only allowed to work with boys!

Unfucking real. But whatever, I'm the kind of person tht thinks like: there was no harm done, I was in the room 100% of the time in hindsight. We need a new doctor obviously. But I'm not gonna go writing letters, or throwing burning logs through windows, or anything really.. Just be more careful and move on. My life mission hasn't been to stop bad people, so why start now. I just do my best to avoid them I guess.

Anyways back to parenting.. It's weird how as you grow older you become a different person to different people too.. Like I'm Socks Manly here, but like 10 other people as well, depending on how you know me... I'm SURE that makes sense after several read throughs... Anyways I guess a parent is now one of those things, I might have to learn how to pretend to be one or something... Hrmph.

Also I'm never shy about what I do, how the fuck is that gonna play out at school and stuff? I'm totally not ashamed, I guess I'll just have to try and pass on those values when the time is right. Maybe my standard response to prudish people will be that if they had been sexed right, they would have another opinion, and that I'd recommend more sex to them as a solution to their problems, and that I can recommend a dildo provider. I would however do so in a sentence that doesn't run on, obviously.

That is wild that they still let him practice medicine. I wonder why he isn't in jail.

The thing with my brother, he says, was a mix of him being nervous and a little over protective then he saw the wife and the first thing he thought was METH! He said it was actually kind of funny because he excused himself for a minute and took her back to the car the kids and parents watched as they got in the car and drove off. His daughter was saying, "Where are we going?" My brother tells her, "Home, " and tried to explain why. About halfway home his daughter tells him about the car wreck. Then he gets home and his wife is saying that her friends parents called and wondered what was wrong. She also tells my brother about the wreck. Apparently everyone knew about her tooth problems but him

He said it was pretty rough going back and apologizing to her for judging her too quickly.

My parents have taken our little one overnight a few times, and both times it was without me knowing in advance. Because I'd have put up a fight.

My mom is saint and they just built a new house and completely babyproofed it in the process. The grandkids even have their own rooms. And I still have trouble giving her up for the night.
