Photoshop Gurus... How Does This Happen??

Sometimes I will open a design and it shows a font size as being 3pt even though it was originally typed in a 12pt font.

I believe I only see this when opening large documents and it opens in a small size like when the document opens at 33% of the original size.

I was just talking to someone else about this and he has the same thing. We can't figure out how to undo it.

What causes this? How can it be fixed?

Does anyone know.

hrm, perhaps the font was transformed in size from the default size it was with its number setting.

I dont know if that transfers through after saving a psd and reopened but I have encountered that from free transforming the font layer.

i was just playing with that after reading your reply - transforming it to different sizes, saving it and re-opening it. it still does the same thing. in this case, i didn't scale it up or down with that tool, and change the font size that i know of.

if i change it by using the transform tool (locking aspect ratio) right now and save it and open it, it still shows the font size in whatever size it is in relation to what it was. so it starts at 3.12 and i scaled it up to what looked like 12pt, saved it, re-opened it and it now shows the size as 4.62pt

you sure you dont have some kind of type unit conflict going on?
like mm set in preferences then using points in the type tool?
(not sure if that can actually happen, but just a thought.)

Does it have anything to do with resolution setting? Once I opened a large image in photoshop and for some odd reason it changed my settings, after that any file I opened showed the font sizes much smaller than original. I changed the resolution back to 72 and everything looked fine after that.

Thanks guys, this only happens in one psd file.. for example, i can open any other or a new one and the fonts/sizes are normal.

Here is someone talking about the exact same thing i'm talking about - i've only found 2 places with someone talking about it. http://forums.macworld.com/thread/83998

It's looking like it has to have something to do with settings in Photoshop changing for that document.

I opened a new doc, copied all the layers to that doc and the font size (its claimed size) is back to normal.

I'm still kinda curious how this happens and where the settings are to stop it. It happens often if i have big documents

check the DPI (dots per inch) when you make a new file, it has to be set to 72

that's the first time I ever heard about that. Just in case, reset your preferences and change type units to px and see what happens

ah, I see you already solved it, I thought it was for all documents, if it's a single document it probably had a different resolution and/or fonts scaled on a percent ratio

Sometimes I have several PSD's open and I switch between going to my desktop and back to PS all the files I have open have moved up with the X outside of my screen, some images are totally out my screen.. freakin weird and annoying..

Just wanted to say that, thank you!

I've had that happen and it was the resolution. I hadn't set my preferences and when i switched projects it stayed the same.

I've had this happen a couple times. I believe it's a commonly known Photoshop glitch. I believe the solution was to just shut down Photoshop and restart.

It's the DPI setting.
