FTC to go after blogger freebies

Quote:
The Federal Trade Commission is planning to crack down on bloggers who review or promote products while earning freebies or payments, the Associated Press reported Sunday.
Quote:
The rules could be quite strict, even extending to the practice of affiliate links--for example, a music blogger who links to a song on Amazon MP3 or iTunes that earns an affiliate commission in the process.

They're going after people who are conning surfers into joining/subscribing to products and services under false pretense. Most of these people would probably be terminated by the affiliate program anyways so I don't see this as anything more than what would occur in a typical affiliate/affiliate program relationship. I can't see the FTC wasting their resources going after someone who got a free laptop and is saying how great it is. I really think this is just the FTC going after people who are scamming and lying to get paid. My opinion at least...

How about adult review sites? They all get commission for their sales.

Correct.

ShoeBitch has been talking about this stuff since last year. Apparently there are a lot of mainstream mofo's doing fake testimonials and other things that have fallen into the cross hairs of of the FTC.

First it was ringtones, and now this weight loss and other shit.

They "just" want disclosure, it doesn't mean you have to stop. If it does get to the point where they're hassling everyone, all you need is a link, like a privacy policy that says you get paid a commission. Not the end of the world.

Problem is that FTC will go after people based on amount of complaints, not the amount of complaints per 1000 of customers as they obviously do not know that. So they will crack down on one or more of the larger players in the area not knowing if their claims is true or not. Wasn't that what happened with soulcash (correct the name if I'm mistaken) ?
Don't forget they got DEEP pockets and they follow through to the end unless you settle.
Not to forget in the adult space most designs is made in the Philippines by a designer who was given some keywords that "sell" but he never saw what is actually being sold (the members area)
