Catching some of the leaked and rumored black friday ad's.

This is going to be one nasty shopping season and again possibly very brutal to yet a few more big stores once again.

Target will not confirm their leaked ad that has a few 3.00 small appliances in it.
Wal Mart has managed to stay hush so far.
Clothing everywhere seems crazy cheap.

yeah that is one of the sites I check. Additional rumors suggest there may be some last minute additions done via non print mediums.

Yes people I do price saving shit like that.

Yeah, they are. I also heard that they will allow people to line up inside the store in roped off areas near different departments instead of one big one outside to avoid the stampede effect.

Black-Friday specials...

Assume a product is $10 normally, on a normal sale it's $8. And on black Friday it's $5.

Does that mean the product was worth $4 (assume) and we're just getting that ripped off every other day of the year?

no, means the product cost is $7 and they are offering deals to get you in the door in the hopes that while you're there you'll buy a few more items for $10 that have a product cost of $7.

If you buy wires and cables at a retail store, you are getting ripped off everyday. They are marked up sooo much.

There are things called loss leaders. They are used all of the time, sometimes in each weeks flyer.

Then even if what you said is true up to your last line. No that would not mean you are being ripped off. A 60% markup is not unheard of with large volume merchants. It is a perk of being a large volume buyer.
Smaller merchants are who get fucked. They do not get to buy it at 4 and sell it at 10. They get to buy it at 6 or 7 and sell it at 10. So if they want to compete they have to do it on other ways beyond price. Otherwise you will see the Wal Mart effect.
Lastly why does it seem in many of your posts that profit is a four letter word? They do have to pay overhead on much larger stores, have more turnover, more risk, more theft, more wages, etc. Even seems you would be against the small store making a fair profit, even though they are handicapped from the start.

Most of the stuff I've seen can already be found online at the same and in some cases even lower prices.

Fuck battling the idiot crowds. My shopping is, as of today, 75% done maybe more.

I'll completely avoid all these sales.... I don't mind paying a little more if it is less of a headache to shop on a less busy day.

Sometimes yes, sometimes shipping costs make it more.
I also almost never buy clothing online. I want to feel it first and make sure it fits - you can not trust size's.

I also do not panic shop like most do. I do not wait last minute, nor would I ever go out during black Friday myself, nor would my wife. We do have a good family friend that treats it like a super important cant miss sporting event. She would pick up anything we ask for. If I do need to pick up anything from after Friday to mid Dec. it is rarely packed if I or wife goes.
We also make most of our gifts, shopping is for us.

I do know we need to pick up some Hallmark ornaments this year. We get them ever year and have since we have known each other.

Jeans were the one thing I said I'd never buy online. Now I'm constantly buying them online. I think we get some sort of free shipping through Amazon Prime and since my girl is a bloodhound when it comes to finding the deals...we always come out ahead.

I have some family member's who do it up, like your family friend. They've got their plan of attack already set in motion. I spent an hour today listening to them.

80% done now, just ordered my Mom a Blackberry.

Ya, people spend all day standing in lines and fighting for parking spots to save a few bucks on something they could have got online for a just few dollars more.

Does Amazon indicate what their deals are going to be before BF comes? I've winged it with them the past couple years but I'm tempted to get a larger Flash drive for myself along with gifts for others if their deal on them will be good enough this year.

I've done mostly Amazon the past couple years and while everyone else is dealing with long ass lines, insane traffic, etc., I'll spend several hours less and maybe even pay less anyways for the shit I need to get. My time's more valuable than the few bucks I MIGHT be saving if I went to in-person stores instead, not to mention places like Walmart also have sites. :P

I asked a question, it's that simple... you're looking to far into it.

My question though relates to the economic times though. So many people claiming things are soooo tough, yet can give 20% store wide sales with 50, 60 and 80%+ discounts...

I buy online and from my local pc shop because I know best buy is a rip off. this has nothing to do with sales volume... best buy, is a rip off. Right up until these specials.

It's not only me that has said this...

Many times the advertised price is a percentage off of the products "list" or "manufactures suggested price" Everyday price might be 40% off list, sale price 50% off, etc.

I was in Office Depot this week and the sales guys were talking about their flyer which had just leaked, so they showed me a copy - they have them for $199 (or so, I forget the exact amount but under $200) on black friday.
