"Big Brother" coming to the Netherlands?

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php...show_article=1

I know we have a lot of people here from the Netherlands. Is this true? How do you feel about it? I don't think attaching a government mandated GPS device to every car and tracking everyone's every move would go over too well here in the US.

Quote:
The Dutch government said Friday it wants to introduce a "green" road tax by the kilometre from 2012 aimed at cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 10 percent and halving congestion.

"Each vehicle will be equipped with a GPS device that tracks how many kilometres are driven and when and where. This data will be then be sent to a collection agency that will send out the bill," the transport ministry said in a statement.

There's got to be an ulterior motive since they could broadly tax kilometres driven by increasing taxes on fuel (perhaps with a rebate scheme for more efficient cars)

I'm sure there's even some way to track kilometres travelled without needing to fix location either...

Big Brother indeed

They love the use of monitoring equipment in the EU. Cameras everywhere. Chips in everything.

Yes we know and i think most people hate it. The ones that doesn't hate it are ignorend. We all know what this means, but people believe that the government takes care of them. They will see at the end that it is all against them and driving a car will only be more expensive and Big Brother is driving with you. Big brother knows exactly where you are driving cause they don't want you to take short-cuts to avoid traffic jams.

They follow you everywhere. After a few years they will give you speeding tickets when you drive 5 km/h to fast. Or they look if you are stopping in front of a coffeeshop. The DDR would be proud of a system like this. People who has to go to work pay extra cause the drive during rush hours, which will be more expensive.

And then people think that 'Wilders' get so much votes cause he is against the islam. But he is getting so much votes cause there is no other political organization against stupid plans like these. Normally you go with retirement when you are 65 years old. Last week they raised it to 67 years old.

They are fucking morrons. They say it will be cheaper and they cut tax 'bpm' what you pay when you buy a new car. But that's cause Europe said it was a ILLEGAL tax (that's why a BMW is 30% cheaper in Germany than in Holland). And they are afraid cars will run on other fuel like electricity and then they can't put an tax on it like on gasoline, what they are doing now. It is not about CO2, it is about MONEY.

I rarely drive, but i rather pay more than Big Brother driving with me. (when you count they say i pay 3 euro less a year with this system... So 59% pays less (a few euro), but 30% is paying much much more. And we don't believe that figures, they get billions of extra euro's for speeding, car indicators, ....,...

Agreed. If they want to penalize people for damage to the environment an increased fuel tax does the trick. This is just a very lame excuse to set a very bad precedent IMO. Once countries start cracking the window open on these things it will be hard to roll them back. Similar to parts of the Patriot Act for instance.

They hate it when you drive to your work and cause a traffic jam. Hard working people are getting ripped of again and again. Now they will pay extra if they drive during rush hours. But gasoline in The Netherland is expensive. You pay 1,45 euro per liter (2.25 dollar). They are afraid we will smuggle gasoline from germany, or drive there every weekend when gasoline gets more expensive. They need other methods to make it more expensive, this new system is how they are doing it.

1 gallon is 3.78 liter = 2.6 dollars in the USA

Just bear in mind that if you have a GSM cell phone then you can already be tracked. The phone and nearby base stations periodically chatter back and forth to ensure you always have the best signal. By analyzing timing and signal data from multiple base stations it's possible to provide a rough fix on your location. Google already do this another way, by analyzing the base station data on the phone side and comparing it with entries in a positional database for greater accuracy.
