Tired of the airlines fucking you? Too bad, bend over.

American Airlines rolls out fee for coach seats - Aug 2010

[LINKHOTTEN]

(CNN) -- For a price, American Airlines passengers can sit at the front of coach class and be among the first coach ticket holders to board. On Wednesday, the airline announced Express Seats, an option that attaches a premium, starting at $19 per flight, to certain coach seats.

Passengers in the first few rows of coach, including the bulkhead seats, will pay an additional fee based on distance, starting at $19 for shorter distances up to $39 for a cross-country itinerary. Travelers who purchase the option will board in the first group of general boarding.

Express Seats will be available only via the airport self-service check-in machines from 24 hours to 50 minutes before departure for flights in the United States, including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. If Express Seats are available, they will appear on the seat map customers see if they opt to change seats.

Really glad I almost never fly these days.

who the shit wants to board a plane... first? ... and sit and fucking wait for every other lazy asshole to get on board before finally taking off.... ...

I always wait until the very last group is called to get off my lazy ass and get on the plane, instead of stand in line, just to get in and wait for an unprecedented amount of time on the plane

fees. ugh. these days, when there are fees required to pay fees, i'm not surprised the airlines charge a boarding fee.

some airlines have already been charging more for aisle seats and bulk head ususally go first to frequent flyers during booking so wonder if that means frequent flyers don't get first rights?

Also, I only like to board early if I have bags that need overhead room. Lately just been checking so not much of in issue, don't mind being last to board

NWA/Delta has been offering something similar for awhile now. At least a few years. I typically pay for those seats, or upgrades, 24 hours before the flight.

So it's not really anything new for the airlines. Others just have marketed it more quietly.

I loved how every company especially airlines raised their prices when our Gas prices skyrocketed a few years ago, then our gas prices came back down and nobody adjusted their prices.

They are milking it every way possible.

I have status, with some airlines and Love to get to the front of the plane, 1st on so I have access to the overhead. Or love to pick aisle exit row seats and not get charged for it . US Air is member of Star Alliance, so I would guess they wil take care of the members 1st then toss the rest open to the general public.

OOPS that was American , not us air , my bad ;)

Just fly first class all the time and then you don't have to worry about any of this.

They'd be better off charging for rows closest to the emergency exits. At least those have a benefit.

It's all crazy as even if you get the express seat and get off the plane after business & first class you all have to wait together at baggage claim if you checked luggage.

I guess if you don't check bags you can get out of the air quicker.

I would pay to be on a flight with no children aboard. See, why don't they do something people actually want?

What's next ...

* Fee for Window and Aisle seats

* Fee to sit closer to a lavatory

* Fee to use the space under the seat

* Fee to recline back in their seat (could be variable based on how far back / length of time used)

* Fee to get out of their seat (on shorter flights; maybe a 1 or 2 free allowance for longer flights)

* Fee to use the above seat light / fan (could be flat-rate or metered)

* Fee to clean the seat / trash removal (could be charged after flight to one's credit card based on amount of mess left / trash removed)

* Fee for using flight attendant service (ie. they bring you a soda, a surcharge is added, as is usually done with hotel room service)

* Fee for talking / making excessive noise (this could actually be good, and likely many would support having this one)

* Fee to get on and off the plane (someone has to pay for having that fancy jetway)

Ron

This already exists. When you go to select your seat on some airlines there are seats in green that have an additional fare attached to them. They consist of the exit areas and up front and some window seats.

It's sad.

No kidding...just fly my ass from point A to point B, no bullshit and no stupid fees. I don't need a fucking steak or a bed - that's what the hotel where I'm going is for. Just get me there and don't burn a hole in my wallet in the process.

It's no wonder they carry more passengers than any other airline...people are sick of the crap the other airlines spew and getting sucked dry.
