You'll have to be more specific. If you just don't want someone to see your url on a forum you can use something like tinyurl.com

Been using .htaccess redirects for years. If you're using WP, there are plenty of plugins that will do it for you. IE., http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/pretty-link/ . That's just the first one that came to mind.
