Illegal tubes aside (a whole different beast), people that hate tubes fall into two categories:

1) Those that do not own them and/or;
2) Those that do not make money from them.

Burger King and other fast food chains hated McDonald's when they introduced the dollar menu. They probably swore it was the downfall of the fast food business. Did McDonald's care? Hell no, it increased their business.

Sure we have boards and shows where everybody congregates and makes friends but at the end of the day it comes down to the dollar. Nobody thinks "hmm, what are my actions going to do to the industry." They think "what are my actions going to do to my bottom line."

I will never hate on someone that is making an honest living, even if I do not like how they are doing it.

I made this post a while back and no one bothered to reply. So here we go again.

It's purely my thoughts on the long term effect of Tubes, legal or not.

What will be the long term effect of getting traffic by teaching surfers the products you sell are free?

Increasingly surfers will become less willing to pay. Paysite joins will become harder and harder to get. So Tube sites will become more reliant on selling ad space to fund the cost of Tubes. With such a small pool of people willing to advertise in the porn arena this funding is limited.

Fine while Dating, Cam and penis sites continue to spend. But as those who want to buy one of these products is reached and has their favorites or disillusioned at the product the buyers will dry up. Or the buyers will increasing start to think those products should be free as well. They will be looking for Dating and Cam sites supported by adverting or donations. Plenty of Fish and My Free Cams come to mind immediately.

Will they spend as much as AFF on adverts?

At the moment increases in traffic might be hiding the underlying effect of teaching surfers NOT to spend money. The real truth is in the ratios. Are more people per 1,000 spending money to support advertisers or less. The only people who know the truth are the last to tell us. Fabian will come here and tell us all is fine. And we all know we can trust him.

I've looked at porn for 15+ years and the tubes are all I need for a quick jerk off session. Even if you have something wonderful and niche someone will eventually come along and piss all over it by duplicating and tubing it.

I grew up in adult not knowing that I could so easily talk to other webmasters. I pushed webcams with non nude to nearly nude images and converted as good as if not better than anyone. I experimented a few times with nude images (bought a TGP, sumbitted) and the conversions were nowhere near as good. Not even close.

The entire purpose behind giving someone content is to tease them into signing up to see more. With tubes, there is nothing left to fucking see! At least with TGP's you could put videos in your members area and use images (even hardcore) to upsell moving pictures. Now you're trying to sell videos with free similar videos?

Someone will always make money with piles of traffic. Using porn vids to promote more intimate shit like webcams is a great idea, until you have saturated that site and the money dries up. Now you are stuck with a pile of videos making sweet fuck all. Of course there are a handful of exceptions, but most people can never hope to have anything close to that. The market leaders have established themselves at this point, how the fuck do you put up a tube better than the one with 400k videos already? 500k? 2 hour videos?

The saddest part of all is that the original tube sites started out doing this shit to steal all of the traffic and they still couldn't make much money. The owner of YouPorn was barely breaking even but ended up with an offer for x,xxx,xxx and sold out. He went from barely covering hosting to a million bucks on a shit business model so now everyone is on the bandwagon.

I wouldn't even find it so retarded if I had seen one tube utilize their position to feed visitors into another site and grow another property into something valuable. xvideos / xnxx is the only one I can think of off hand doing something even close to that and they are pretty much hated by webmasters in general. Yay, they are rich and have successfully cockblocked all but the most determined competitors.

I kind of feel like monopolistic entities will alway thrive on the internet because 'webmasters' don't have an organizing body. For instance, this forum is kind of like an organized body, but there are too many free market capitalists here. Too many people out for themselves without any concern for others. That's fine, but you're going to continue to get more tubes and more epass situations, like that.

But Paul Markham is right to point out that the revenue is the real source of the tube's power.

I like the business plan really. It's like TV. But you're going to need advertisers to stay in business, and produce your own content.

Tubes aren't the problem- it's user generated content i.e. stolen content. If xvideos produced its own videos you'd be sure, it would be in a members area and not free.

It doesn't have to be niche. Could be mainstream. It has to be different from what a 1,000 other sites are delivering and on Tubes already. If I want to watch a girl just getting fucked on a sofa, bed, in the back of a van or POV style. I'm not only spoilt for choice of Paysites to join, I have 1,000s of scenes for free on Tubes to watch.

Even if YOU remove your content or lock it down like Robbie does, a similar scene will always be on a Tube site.

A different approach is needed.
