Rick Schwartz Sells XXXVideos.com for $1,368,000!

For a guy who has gone into "semi-retirement" Domain King Rick Schwartz is still having some very productive sales days. In fact Rick just let us know he has closed the second biggest sale of the year to date, moving XXXVideos.com for a whopping $1,368,000.

Rick said he originally acquired XXXVideos.com for just $920 in 1997 and that over the years leading up to the sale the name had produced around $150,000 in revenue for him. The buyer of the domain has chosen to remain private. Schwartz said 1997 was the year "the light bulb went off" for him, sending him off on a buying spree in which he acquired what proved to be some of his best

Schwartz picked up 57 names from their original owners that year after previously hand registering most of the domains he owned. This may have been the birth of what we now know as the aftermarket. It was before Escrow.com so each purchase was a risk as you sent off your money and hoped for the best. Still Schwartz said he was only stiffed one time when he sent someone $1,000 for a domain that the "seller" never delivered.

That's great.
However, look at the prices of the other .com domains sold on that page linked -- that is not so great.

not every domain is going to sell for a million. its rare to ever even see a new gtld on there.

flexibledieting.com 27k regged in 2012 yeah thats a damn good sale.

twinbet.com 12k regged in 2012 i'd take that in a heartbeat.

that's gotta be bs, he probably sold it for a fraction of that, and just made up that 1.4M price to inflate the value of his remaining adult domains...

unless Ron Jackson, owner of DNJournal makes special rules for Rick then I'd say no. Bank statements and escrow.com verification is required to post private sales.

Considering he's sold...

Porno.com $8,888,888.88

This was the 4th largest recorded cash domain sale ever! (Purchased for $42,000 in 1997) It is important to note that this domain had career earnings in excess of $15 Million via pay per click earnings and never had adult content)

989.com $818,181.81 (registered for $100 in 1997)

899.com $801,000 (registered for $100 in 1997)

9595.com $180,000 (registered for $100 in 1998)

Earlier sales....

Men.com $1,320,000 (bought from 3rd party for $15,000 in 1997)

eBet.com $1,350,000 (registered for $100 in 1997)

Property.com/Properties.com $4MM + Equity Stake (Bought from 3rd party for $750,000 in 2005)

Candy.com $3MM + Royalties + 10% Ownership +++ (Bought via broker for about $100,000 in 2005)

iReport.com to CNN for $750K

Meet.me $450,000

The following were early sales to establish domain value. Registered between 1996 and 1999 for $35-$100 each.

TokyoHotels.com $200k++

ChinaTours.com $200,000

RockStars.com $180,000

FreeSexCams.com $150,000

GayEscorts.com $121,550

PartnerCash.com $110,000

eCruise.com $100,000 & Stock

235.com for $100,000

SydneyHotels.com $100,000

eScore.com $100,000

RoomDividers.com $75,000

273.com $50,000

PunchBowl.com Cash/Stock

236.com to IAC (Undisclosed)

OnlineCasinos.com (undisclosed)

among others don't think he needs to inflate anything as people already know if ya contact him save your bullshit offers.

He sold porno.com a while ago. Why would they need to lie for him? I've heard his story on an interview and he's smart, had money to invest.

it's in the best interest for both buyer, seller, DNJournal and really the whole domain industry in general to inflate the price... even if DNJournal actually verifies each sale, it would be very easy to game it...

lets say the domain actually sold for $368k... buyer wires 1.368M to the seller... seller shows this as a 1.368M sale to DNJournal, seller then wires back 1M back to the buyer..

seller is happy, value of his remaining domains get inflated... buyer is happy, cause everyone thinks xxxvideos.com is worth 1.368M, so if he later needs to sell it for $800k, everyone will think they are getting a bargain... and everyone else in the industry is happy too, as it makes it appear like domains are a great investment...

Get over it.
The price was not inflated.
Rick and Ron are two of the most trustworthy men in the industry.

Ron would never post that price without verifying it.

In theory yes but not a domain here that would be doubted based on the domain and who the seller is. There's a group of guys that when you find their domains you know not to offer anything less than xx,xxx and Rick would be one of those guys. Also with https://corpgov.law.harvard.edu/2016...-requirements/
Escrow services are moving to ID's, address verification etc... so gaming a system on wires going back and forth not likely. Easy to move $1000 back and forth but moving anything above 10k gets eyeballs on it. Personally I've sold $8 .Com domains for 1-10k and a few well above 10k into 6 figure range for the last 13+ years so don't doubt better quality domains reach even higher.

the numbers just don't make sense... it's a pretty good domain, but in reality it gets fuck all traffic, it's porn so the traffic isn't really that valuable to begin with, and it's very generic making it worth even less... so I don't think there is any question that it's not going to generate any significant income...

so the only hope of making money on this deal is to flip it later for more $$, certainly possible, but porn industry is pretty risky to begin with, it's not exactly booming either, the direction it's heading is more towards live entertainment than pre-recorded "xxx videos"... so it seems like a very risky investment...

if I had $1M+ to gamble with, if anything I would buy a mainstream domain, any type in traffic it gets is usually more valuable, it's not porn so far less risky, and there are usually way more potential buyers, many with virtually unlimited budgets so sky is the limit...

maybe I'm clueless and this actually was a good investment, but either way good luck to the buyer...

I cannot even sell names yet because of Sunrise TMCH names being reserved. And without the consent to disclose the names being reserved I can't talk about who they are. Hopefully, they are not all defensive reservations -- they do come with one years full EEP and DDNS -- the may be some interesting development.

As for anyone without a TMCH SMD issued ( not an exact match trademark ) -- your name is for sale in the .cam extension after December 7, 2016. I am accepting pre-bids on the premium names.

However, we are turning down some pre-bids for premium names that have been as high as 5 figures -- I ain't worried at all ...

25,000,000 new gTLDs have been registered and the snowball is just starting. You don't know what a Registry's wholesale price is to a Registrar either.

In the 18 years that I owned the domain name, it earned approximately $15 million, without ever having adult content! I simply sold the traffic to the highest bidder.

Parking earnings back when I started buying/selling domains in 2003 were off the chart. Today parking is damn near dead reason parking companies have been sold to new owners and you see domain sales pages being available at Bodis, Uniregistry, Efty, Undeveloped, Wordpress plugins etc... as more are focusing on selling a domain now since parking earnings not what they used to be.

i think of him what you want. i doubt he cares. he's a multi millionaire who had the foresight to invest in domains very early and still has a shitload of very valuable domains he hasn't sold.

How the fuck are people making this kind of money off shitty domain names like 235.com or whatever?

Insanity.

Number domain names are big in Asia. They don't use the Latin alphabet but read and remember numbers.

Those Chinese buyers love numeric domains. They eat that shit up.

Randomly type in 3-6 digit number .coms and see.. if it's not parked it's a company. Or something else cool.

must be good at exaggerating the value of domains because any normal guy selling that wouldn't get more than 10k but hey fair play to the guy

Nice sale, but the price is obviously bullshit. They always inflate the price to keep/inflate the value of their other domains.

".... for just $920 in 1997 and that over the years leading up to the sale the name had produced around $150,000 in revenue for him"

So the domain makes $7500 per year in typein traffic and sells for over $1 million, it obviously doesn't add up. The domain itself is okay, but if you have 1.4 million you can get much better brandable domains for less and spend the rest on branding and traffic.

As long as there's no 4 in the domain name these are super premium in China. Imagine being able to acquire a domain that's XXX and pronouncable in both Asia and the rest of the world.

This is huge. I bet if 888.com was available and not a gambling site if they wanted to sell they could get easily 10 M for the domain name itself from the Chinese.

Will it end up as a Tube site?

For that kind of money, I suspect so.

Most of the other domains are lacklustre and in markets already saturated.

I can only speak to reported facts.
Rick's reported sales and DNJ reporting are 100% accurate.
Neither one is in the biz of reporting bullshit.

XXXvideos.com is no doubt valuable, even if current use is not the most optimal.

Porno.com past revenue is legit too. In the early days this traffic was worth around $200 CPM.
