Not to condone or belittle their suffering but any refugee, assylum seeker or illegal knows what suffering they, and/or their children, are in for now at the border. They're not coming to the border expecting to be treated decently & humanely anymore. It's unfortunate that Trump has lowered America's standards in such a way.

There is a simple easy solution to the problem. They don't enter countries illegally and apply for a visa or asylum at the border.

However if a family breaks the law, they have to expect a penalty if caught. To expect a cushy accommodation is unfair on tax payers.

However if any of you bitching liberals do want to pay for better accommodation you are welcome to donate the millions it will cost you.

Thousands of Immigrant Children Said They Were Sexually Abused in U.S. Detention Centers, Report Says

The federal government received more than 4,500 complaints in four years about the sexual abuse of immigrant children who were being held at government-funded detention facilities, including an increase in complaints while the Trump administration’s policy of separating migrant families at the border was in place, the Justice Department revealed this week.

The records, which involve children who had entered the country alone or had been separated from their parents, detailed allegations that adult staff members had harassed and assaulted children, including fondling and kissing minors, watching them as they showered, and raping them. They also included cases of suspected abuse of children by other minors.

From October 2014 to July 2018, the Office of Refugee Resettlement, a part of the Health and Human Services Department that cares for so-called unaccompanied minors, received a total of 4,556 allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment, 1,303 of which were referred to the Justice Department. Of those 1,303 cases deemed the most serious, 178 were accusations that adult staff members had sexually assaulted immigrant children, while the rest were allegations of minors assaulting other minors, the report said.

“The safety of minors is our top concern when administering the UAC program,” Jonathan H. Hayes, the acting director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement, said in a statement, using an abbreviation for unaccompanied children. “None of the allegations involved O.R.R. federal staff. These allegations were all fully investigated and remedial action was taken where appropriate.”

The records do not detail the outcome of every complaint, but they indicate that some accusations were determined to be unfounded or lacking enough evidence to prosecute. In one case, a staff member at a Chicago detention facility was accused in April 2015 of fondling and kissing a child and was later charged with a crime. The report did not state whether that person had been found guilty.

The documents, first reported by Axios, were made public by Representative Ted Deutch, Democrat of Florida, the night before a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Tuesday about the Trump administration’s policy of family separations at the southern border. That policy, which was put in place last spring, resulted in more than 2,700 children being separated from their parents under President Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy of prosecuting anyone caught crossing the border illegally, including those with families seeking asylum on humanitarian grounds.

For most of the four years covered by the report, the number of allegations made to the Office of Refugee Resettlement stayed about the same from month to month. But the number of complaints rose after the Trump administration enacted its separation policy. From March 2018 to July 2018, the agency received 859 complaints, the largest number of reports during any five-month span in the previous four years. Of those, 342 allegations were referred to the Justice Department, the report showed.

During the hearing on Tuesday, a discussion of the records sparked a heated exchange between Mr. Deutch and Cmdr. Jonathan White of the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, who last year repeatedly warned a top official in Health and Human Services that the family separation policy could permanently traumatize young children.

As Mr. Deutch read some of the report, Commander White interjected, “That is false!”

He later apologized, claiming that a “vast majority of allegations proved to be unfounded.” He said he was unaware of any accusations against staff members that were found to have merit.

Sexual Assault Of Detained Migrant Children Reported In The Thousands Since 2015

In each of the past four years, 1,000 or more immigrant children who arrived at the southern U.S. border without their parents have reported being sexually abused while in government custody, according to federal records released Tuesday.

The data from the Department of Health and Human Services was made public by Rep. Ted Deutch, D-Fla., before a congressional hearing on the Trump administration's policy of separating migrant families.

As NPR's John Burnett reported,

"The federal Office of Refugee Resettlement, which is in charge of caring for under-age immigrants, received more than 4,500 allegations of sexual abuse and sexual harassment between 2015 and 2018. The reporting begins under the Obama administration. Of those complaints, some 1,300 were serious enough to refer to the FBI, but an official says 'the vast majority' proved to be unfounded.

"Most of the assault allegations involved one minor abusing another. But 178 of the complaints were against staff at the shelters — in particular, youth-care workers who escort the children everywhere they go. The complaints range from inappropriate romantic relationships between children and adults, to touching genitals, to watching children shower."

In a hearing by the House Judiciary Committee, Deutch said the government's 135 migrant shelters are "an unsafe environment."

"Together these documents detail an environment of systemic sexual assault by staff on unaccompanied children," he said.

Administration officials expressed their concern while defending the Office of Refugee Resettlement.

"We share the concern that I think everyone in this room feels, anytime a child is abused in the care of ORR is one time too many," said Jonathan White, the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps commander.

"The vast majority of allegations prove to be unfounded when they are investigated by state law enforcement and federal law enforcement and the state licensure authorities to whom we refer them," he added.

Children who travel to the U.S. border alone or who arrive with a relative who is not their parent or legal guardian are considered by the government to be unaccompanied minors.

"Some 13,000 so-called unaccompanied migrant children are in the custody of the ORR, Burnett reported. "They stay, on average, for about three months at the shelters before they are released to go live with an adult sponsor, while they await their day in immigration court."

The ORR first began collecting reports of sexual abuse of people in its custody in October 2014, the beginning of FY 2015.

The agency has "a zero-tolerance policy for all forms of sexual abuse, sexual harassment, and inappropriate sexual behavior at all care provider that house unaccompanied alien children," according to the policy statement. All care providers are required to report all such allegations to state or local authorities within four hours of learning such information.

Any person who is caught doing this should face the full penalty of the law.

However it's even more reasons for not breaking the law and entering a country illegally. Good to see Bosa standing up for the Right Side. These children would never get abused if they stayed in their own country.

Of course if the bleeding heart liberals are complaining about the condition of how criminals are kept. They are free to donate money to keep each one safe.

It says a lot that you think treating people in your custody in a sanitary humane way is a "liberal" ethic.

Notice how we never had these problems of inhumane unsanitary conditions for migrants & asylum seekers under any other president.... just Trump, the guy you admire so much from halfway around the world.

"Most of the assault allegations involved one minor abusing another."

Bleeding heart liberals are free to pay so each child can have a secure room where he's kept away from danger. Say $100 per night.

Of course building a wall and stopping them at the border would be better but Democrats prefer this method. It started under Obama.

I partially agree with you.

We need to change our asylum laws. If you want to claim asylum, the ONLY place you can do this is at a US Embassy. Don't have a US Embassy in your country, no problem - go to a country that does.

As for locking them up.... Entering the United States illegally is a misdemeanor.... Misdemeanors are usually punished with community service, probation, or a short jail term. We shouldn't lock them up for a year or longer for what is a misdemeanor. In fact, we aren't locking them up for a crime at all... We are locking them up while their asylum claim is processed, which can take a year or longer.

We didn't have these problems under Obama.

The Wall will save money. That's been proven so many times I'm sick of repeating it.

Look at the cost of these detention centres. How much are the American tax payers prepared to pay to keep them in better accommodation?

Quote:
ICE facilities cost $133.99 a day per adult

ICE facilities cost $133.99 a day per adult
According to ICE’s FY 2018 budget, on average it costs $133.99 a day to maintain one adult detention bed. But immigration groups have pegged the number closer to $200 a day.

The cost to maintain a family bed, which keeps mothers and children together in a family residential center, costs around $319 a day, according to DHS.
How can it cost less to keep the family in a separate secure unit?

Quote:
Those beds cost $775 per person per night, HHS told NBC News.
Unless they're talking about throwing many families in together and the danger still exists. Any way the cost will sky rocket once better, safer, secure accommodation is found.

But you are free to donate more money to the detention centres to look after these criminals.

What the fuck do you mean "bleeding heart liberals"? If I treated my child the way they are treating these kids... I would go to prison.

What ever happened to common decency?

These children haven't committed a crime. They haven't been charged with anything; They will never be charged with anything. We are locking up children for no reason at all.

This is all happening because of the Trump administration and their policy. This didn't happen under Obama.

So, we should just leave them on the streets? Good call Rochead.

The only people crying about this are white shitlibs. You don't see actual illegal immigrants complaining.

What ever happened to common decency?

These children haven't committed a crime. They haven't been charged with anything; They will never be charged with anything. We are locking up children for no reason at all.

This is all happening because of the Trump administration and their policy. This didn't happen under Obama.
So what's your solution? Come on you have to have an alternative plan and not just mouthing because it's Trump.

There's a Republican narrative going around now that Trump is doing the same thing Obama did. That's not true at all.

There's a huge difference. Trump has created a humanitarian crisis and is woefully ill-equipped to deal with it in both intelligence, empathy and morality. There's a very deliberate cruelty going on which is very specific to the way the Trump administration handles a situation. It all trickles down from the top...and the top is rotten, slimy and evil. The guy they just put in charge as the acting chief of the Border is a raving anti-immigrant conspiracy theorist who regularly goes on Fox news to spew his hate.

and fuck you for making this thread.

Notice how we never had these problems of inhumane unsanitary conditions for migrants & asylum seekers under any other president.... just Trump, the guy you admire so much from halfway around the world.
he's a wrinkly old piece of shit. The world won't have to deal with him in a couple of years.
