Good luck among the "shoe salesmen" trying to be producers around here.... Now, are you a techno " geek" who can explain to me the difference between HD 265 and PAL or you actually shoot some shit models at all?

If you are the former, just do not waste your time here if the latter I may be interested, once you read my " looking for soft GG content" thread in full

And 4 K for the Internet . That's a new one... i just shot a TV pilot for a major US company and they wanted 6 K when I told them the costs of the VFX in 6 K they have agreed to 2 K..... 4 K was not even mentioned ;)

I was referring to 6K color correction and work flow... now I did and yes he has some nice stuff. To bad he does not come back

With my current 4k workflow I don't have to charge clients any more than HD
and I doubt anyone will be asking me for 6k anytime soon. I currently shoot
with 2 Panasonic Gh4s and Edit/Color Grade/Adobe Premiere CC/After Effects.

BTW its H.265 and it has nothing to do with PAL or NTSC it is a compression format.

Hey Jay, I spoke in haste earlier, you have some nice stuff there... But around here its a bit too upscale as far as the technology goes. I still shoot with the good old HVX 200 and P2 cards and post, colour correct etc...in FCP and STP and it works definitely for the Internet in H265 but also "crunched up" to a bit phoney 2K for most cable channels.... As I said earlier when I quoted 6K rez for simple blood FX, they all came back ... " OK, 2 K is fine"... You are way ahead of the time.

Downsampling 4k to 1080 is not only far superior and sharper than starting in HD but it allows my clients movies to be relevant for years to come so they are ready to go 4k when the time is right. 4k is already happening on Netflix and soon we will be streaming 4k porn the same way through devices like the ROKU. If you are shooting $500 scenes then it probably doesn't matter to you. 4k is very relevant and it doesn't make sense to spend top dollar to create content that won't make the cut 5 years from now. You can bet there will be a huge demand for 4k when the floodgates open.


I had the HVX200 in 2003 and back then it was a great camera but you can get a new consumer camera for under $300 that will blow it away. Compared to my work now my old HVX 200 footage looks really soft almost out of focus to compared to the detail I can shoot with my current setup. If you want to argue about it shows too much detail in the skin then

1)you aren't lighting it right
2)you are shooting sub-par models with bad skin
3)you are just old skool

Here are a few titles I shot in 4k last summer and you get the 4k download with the
DVD or BlueRay.

I don't shoot softcore GG scenes in porn valley it can cost as much as a BG scene and most models are booked up with premium booking and wont accept the lower paying shoots. I don't think it would be cost effective for you since your thread says you are trying to get scenes for $500. Here is what it costs.

4k Production Cost Breakdown

Girls $600-$800 each depends on how popular some girls are even higher (the alternative shoot cheaper average looking non agency models for $500 models get uglier when the price go down and hot porn girls are less common with today's less lucrative industry )

4 hours of location $400 (the alternative $100 for a very cheap looking hotel room)

Agency Fee $100 per girl (the alternative hire non agency low end talent)

Production Fees $800 (includes editing and booking talent/locations) (the alternative hire joe blow with a camcorder)

2nd camera/shooter $400 (the alternative shoot with one camera without extreme closeups)

If this makes sense to you then let's talk more. I know there are companies that pay more for scenes than I do out there. I try to keep things cost effective but very high end.


My motto "If the model is making more than the producer than its not worth shooting" UNLESS ITS A SHOW UP AND SHOOT GIG.
They are the ones performing but their job is over in 4 hours. The producer spends much more time and effort booking locations, managing the budget, paying people, making sure contracts are in order, and managing the whole production.

If I had a job where I could just SHOW UP AND SHOOT and let the company manage production I will cut my rate in HALF but if I have to manage the whole production and have twice the workload and time involved I have to get PAID.

If you are the production manager and shooter you are responsible for all the BOOKING, KILL FEES, & LEGAL IMPLICATIONS.


I will take a show up and shoot job over being the PRODUCTION MANAGER AND SHOOTER anyday!
Booking and production management can be very stressful and when people are unhappy you are the one that has to deal with it and negotiate kill fees.

I forgot to mention SHOW UP AND SHOOT gigs are also much easier because I don't have to bring the $20,000.00 worth of cameras and lights and break my back. I filled in for Laslo that shoots for BangBros when he was out of town and they have 2 PAs that show up and setup the the gear before the he even shows up. There is also a production manager that does all the bookings, paperwork, chooses the wardrobe, pays everyone, and even copies the memory cards at the end of the shoot. This gives you and idea how much goes into a decent sized porn shoot. I think these type of shoots get better content because the shooter is not worried about jugglinig all of these things at once and can concentrate on shooting.

I also failed to mention makeup artists. I shoot most girls natural so I try not to use them but they charge $200-300 for 2 girls.

You have forgot other things.... Sound,catering, transport, props, wardrobe,locations etc... Etc... That is why shooting this in US is not possible at this budget.

At these prices you need to sell it to a 100 web masters at $ 500 to break even.... That is not the business I am in all my content is exclusive to me. I also know that in US the porn actresses are expensive even though, the Czechs I use are nicer looking;)...they in the USA supposedly even have an union of sorts. Go figure. I think all of that is a part of over all USA decline... US have lost the car manufacturing, all their recent wars and now they loosing in the porn business.

But, I do appreciate your time to answer the posts...albeit its pissing me off (since I have booked my next shoot already and it clashes with my holiday in Italy my wife booked without telling me) I have to go and do it while on holiday

Again, your knowledge is much appreciated. If I get my TV series going in the fall ( very mainstream) I will ask you for advice on all of this 6 K shit...

I don't charge any more for 4k I have the computers and storage space to handle it. It is no different than HD shooting except 4 X the file size and quality.

I am lucky enough to have clients that trust me with lots of money. They send enough to do 6-10 shoots per month right now.
