Thanks for the post. A quick question. How do you organically encourage and gain more followers? It seems hard to quickly gain any, compared to twitter with friday follows etc

Actually, many of the overly used hashtags on twitter, also apply to tumblr. Be sure to tag all of your posts with relevant keywords. Also, unlike twitter, mass following works (just dont overdo it). Follow a few blogs a day. Some will stick and followback, I assure you.

I'm having problems with tumblr.

I've tried by just setting up some blogs with no monetization until I get some followers.

I noticed I wasn't get any followers and wondered why. I've now realised non of my posts are appearing in search. If you search for any of the tags in my posts they don't show up. Also if you type the name of my blog into the search box, it doesn't find it. I've tried searching for my tags while logged into someone elses account, but they don't show. I have it set to show nsfw posts.

Its like tumblr is hiding me?

As far as I can tell I am sticking to all the rules. Has anybody else had any problems like this?

I have exactly the same problem but just signed up today.

I mailed support and got this:

In order to prevent spam and other types of abuse on Tumblr, that feature is locked on new accounts. After you've used the account for a while to do things like Following other blogs, Liking posts, and customizing your blog's appearance, the feature will be unlocked so you can use it. We apologize for the inconvenience.

However I have been using the service for over two weeks, customised my blog, been following, blogging, reblogging, liking and commenting and still the same problem.

Tumblr's new policy

This issue you are experiencing has to do with their new policy.
they are no longer indexing adult blogs. :-(

I can't include any links yet but if you Google or look at the link in the Admin settings of your Tumblr blog (besides 'NFSW' option) you'll see it.

Do we know how new the policy is? There's a bunch of information about it here: http://www.erosblog.com/2013/05/15/n...tumblr-search/

But nothing on the timing.

That is a super-interesting article and the comments bring new questions
to the table. I never even noticed that they weren't indexing our blogs. I let
that one slip right past me!

Yahoo have agreed to pay $1.1b for tumblr

newbguy 06-04-2013 08:58 PM

Thanks for the info, I am doing like a poster above me said and just posting without any referrals until I get a following. Does using a bot or website to auto que my posts affect me in a negative way? Once again thanks for the info :thumbsup .

Good reading.

oppoten 07-11-2013 09:25 AM

It's a lot harder to get followers now if they flag your blog as "adult", because your posts won't show up in tag search. So yeah you have to go out and follow other people.

If you list your blog as "nsfw" and they don't change it, you'll get followers and reblogs more easily, so long as your content is high quality.

Walrus 07-30-2013 07:53 PM

So I guess the question nowadays is who HASN'T had their tumblr blogs banned? Is it pretty much dead?

SGS 08-07-2013 10:22 AM

Here is a good one: http://frankbuer.tumblr.com/

Thanks for sharing. I don't see any links to an affiliate website. Do you suppose that is the reason why the tumblr blog is still alive?

Maqua 08-10-2013 12:42 PM

Very informative, ty :thumbsup

Huge +1

Tumblr can be a very decent source of traffic as well a way how to promote your brand.

3 tips:
1) Build up 1 mega blog rather than 50-1000 small sh*! ones
2) post only original pictures/gifs
3) quality over quantity!!!

Helmuts

We at LustJobs.com have a relatively new Tumblr blog, but the posts get shared and liked: http://lustjobs.tumblr.com

a random gif sample:

http://31.media.tumblr.com/17aae0e5f...bmd2o2_400.gif

p.s. need original pics of teens? ... check out fiverr where for $5 you can get up to 50 original photos ;)

Thanks for the advice but your blog is not there anymore.

Like someone said above ... who hasn't had a blog deleted yet? Not sure it's worth the time anymore.

Old advice, they changed it back.

Excellent post thankyou. I'm just starting a tumblr blog as we speak

swfantasies 12-24-2013 12:42 PM

Now that Yahoo has acquired Tumblr, has anyone noticed a crack down on adult content? I know that Yahoo said that they would not do this, but I never trust that sort of thing. I have a Tumblr, but to be honest I have not had a chance to do much with it lately because I have been focusing on building a couple of other sites.

swfantasies 12-24-2013 12:43 PM

Looks like this site is gone now.

Pornstarchive 01-27-2014 05:58 AM

This is a great post. Tumblr is a great tool for promotion and content distribution and it's under-utilized (at least by me).

I get good feedback with animated GIF's on Tumblr

billbailey 02-22-2014 08:10 PM

I've become convinced that tumblr blogs get some sort of manual review after reaching 5,000 followers.

I can keep lots of blogs alive constantly, all on unique ips but sometime shortly after getting 5,000 followers they get deleted every time.

I do occasionally get them deleted sooner, sometimes with zero ads or links on . But I have found if you email support, they quickly reply, apologize and restore the blog. Sometimes they reply that the blog was deleted for spam. I have had blogs restored that were monetized but never one with a lot of followers.

When a blog gets banned with over 5,000 followers, they don't even respond to emails.

I have never had that happen nor have I heard of anyone who has. Good for you though.

billbailey 02-23-2014 09:05 PM

Have you tried? Seen lots of other people have the same experience on bhw reading the various tumblr threads on there

Yeah I have had a few blogs deleted and either got no response or got a copy/paste response.

They're a bunch of cunts if they're doing that.

5000 users wondering where their favorite blogs have gone.

DannyA 03-25-2014 01:06 PM

I don't do tumblr but I'm always drawn to an opportunity to make a big score figuring out something people can't do anymore.

Does anybody know what happens just before you're banned? It sounds to me like there's some criteria (adult, lots of activity) that triggers a human review and then someone decides in 2 seconds whether or not you're an affiliate and not just a pervert.

The main thing I wanna know is if these reviews actually happen, is it all by people at a certain office(s) you could pinpoint with a geo-ip lookup? Could you make a totally clean looking blog, then host a javascript that just seems like a counter or something to someone flagged as a reviewer but for everyone else injects all your links and changes all the behavior? You see what I'm getting at? Like SE cloaking but cloaking for humans instead of bots.

isexybody 08-02-2014 02:30 AM

I am planning to create multiple Tumblr site, hope to have harvest, thank you!

Just follow other people from the blog in your niche. If you have quality content, I am sure you will grow.
