Tgp's are for picture galleries, mgp's are for movie ones. That's the main and only difference

As to layout thumbnail sizes differ: so called "horizontal" thumbs for movies and "vertical" ones leading to picture galleries.

no, he is right. MGP is a Movie Gallery Post. they are almost extinct now because of tubes but were very common once.
