Do yourself a favor and go to school to learn a real trade and career.... Web design is going to get you no where. There's no money in being a web designer. Anyone who says otherwise is just trying to sell something.
Even if you get employed full time to a salary position you'll still never make much as a web designer. One of my buddies used to do web design back in 1999. He quit a few years back after all his clients dried up and moved on to other things. Now he's making 70 grand a year as an RN, full benefits.. 100% secure job....... try doing that freelancing in web design... And with the proliferation of do-it-your-self design progs popping up like mad.. people won't even need designers anymore in the near future. Not to mention how web savvy the new generation is.. they just build their own stuff. One of my friends sons (12 years old) built his fathers company website... |

TAntrixxx is right, i heard all the big companies these days are using yahoo template builder to make their sites.
Nobody will need designers, the entire internet is switching to a premade template model. No more logos, just dynamic html text up in the corner. No more user interface design either, just everything premade. design is dead. what a tool. templatemonster, site builders, etc. have been around since day 1. jack ass. |

Most everyone is already online.. but for those companies and individuals who are not -- they all want to do so as quickly and cheaply as possible. I was watching TV the other day and saw a new company advertising their get your business and website online in seconds... more and more of these will continue to pop up.
CMS Template systems such as 1&1, wordpress, drupal, amazon webstore, yahoo stores, etc. are getting better and better, they will soon be an idiot proof way for the layman to build a great professional looking website. Over the next few years these systems will get better and better, with beautifully designed templates. They'll be no point for the masses to spend thousands of dollars for custom websites when they can simply get online cheap and fast and with quality. But go ahead and bet otherwise and become a web designer. The mere fact that the OP is even looking for a job simply proves my points.... If I had a penny for every web designer looking for work....... |

Do you think this generation will be calling on web designers? No, they will install wordpress or the latest and greatest CMS system at that time, and since the youth are all proficient in photoshop they can easily whip up custom graphics.

People always will need designers - people /like Sid/ who has eye for details and vision of how a company should be presented on net. In my country (yes we have internet) the businessmen always look for the cheapest decision to show themselves on the internet. They show themselves on net, because they heard from someone, that this works. And they want to make this presence for 3 bucks, waiting for the change of 50 cent. My friend's 10 years son built his dad's company website - that's amazing (with irony), that guy did not paid someone to do that job - how surprising. Let's hire that kid, or better not, because there already templates built. Usability, colors, composition ?! WTF is these ? I guess the kid knows better. Why should I pay someone money to build me professional website if I can let my 4 years old kid to do this as better as Sid - for example ?. So it seems someone who graduated design or arts in Univesity or High school made this in vain. Because there won't be designers needed. So - there's no professionals, just machines. Let the Terminators come! The age of machines just came. For one thing you're right though. The prices went down, because of the iconomic situation at the moment - we want to make the things cheapier as possible. Some people are not built to do RN job, or did not want to do that. But there's a possibility your words to be true - we must not forget the people who was thinking that people cannot fly. Well - they still don't - they just use machines. Sid - BUMP for you Man!!! Wish you luck with finding the great job you need!!!! |

Theres a typo in your slogan mate. Says "you design" instead of "your design"
Unless I'm not getting it..
