I'm going to a wedding this weekend to watch a stupid (but high-earning) 25 year old buddy get married to an even dumber but cute, slightly crazy 22 year old girl who is hyper, materialistic, overly emotional and already putting on the pounds.

This is the kind of shit most people seem to do--a need to be with someone because they are insecure alone. He had doubts about her right before they moved in together, and even recently admitted he missed the single life. But he apparently loves her and doesn't want to lose her, plus the family is pressuring them to get married and have babies.

Sounds like a match made in codependent heaven.

He is not alone. I would guess most people get married in similar circumstance. I'd say 25% or fewer marriages are true love matches.

yep, see it happen all the time, same kind of people get a pet like a dog, make all kinds of plans, get all tied up together financially, then it is a big mess when they break up in a few years...

the sad thing is that once they do break up, they end up hooking up with someone new and get married or live together and repeat the whole process over again, so it's not just the "being too young" part

The doubts are not the issue. You should be more worried if he was not smart enough tot see both sides. People pretty much do what they want and he is doing that so what is the issue?

25 is too young to get married? Maybe. I have 4 siblings who each got married before the age of 20 though. Now that's young.

That is comparing apples and oranges. In a marriage you have a choice of making it work or not. The 50% divorce rate is based on the fact that it is very easy to get a divorce so people take the quick fix and do it.
