So my daughter wants to sell her car without my input!
She has an old Bronco she is selling for $1800. She wants to show her independence by selling this car and buying her next one on her own. My thought right off the bat was to price it at $2400 and let them talk her to $2000...
But anyway... Guy calls her and I can't hear his side, but I can determine with some accuracy what he is saying based on her answers: Daughter: Hello? Guy: Are you selling the Bronco? d: Yes, that is me. g: How does it run? d: It's OK. I guess. I mean I wouldn't want to keep driving it because there is no way that thing is going to take me to college and back over and over again. It's just way too old. g: How many miles does it have? d: Oh, I wouldn't know that. g: Well, can you go outside and check for me? It's kinda important. d: Look, I'm a girl, OK. I wouldn't even know where to look and I don't even know how to pop the hood in the first place. g: Well, it's actually inside the car. They are the little numbers at the bottom of the speedometer. d: Oh, gosh. Are you really going to make me do this? I'm a girl, dude. Just come and look at it yourself. g: OK, well, does it have any problems? d: Like I said... I am a girl. I don't know about any of this kind of stuff. ~click~ He hangs up on her.. she has been getting calls like this all day and night... Do I step in yet or let it ride? |
let it ride until she snaps
|
Let it ride. At some point she will have to learn that the "I'm a girl" excuse will only get her so far.
|
Let it ride, until she asks.
If she REALLY wants to "show her independence", she's gonna have to learn, that sometimes, in order to BE independent, you have to be smart enough to know when to ask for assistance. :2 cents: |
oh my...don't put up an ad if you aren't willing to put in the work in selling it because youre 'a girl'. i would lose interest as soon as she says she doesn't know how to open the hood. you just know she has driven it while it had problems due to her severe lack of knowledge but yeah, let it ride.
|
Sounds like she keeps saying "I'm a girl" because you usually step in in these situations. ;-)

DO NOT DISTURB!
life lesson in progress |
I'd blame her parents.

Oh Lord!
Just got another call... d: hi? g: are you selling the... d: yeah, yeah, that's me. g: How many miles? d: Oh my God. What is this? Can you just come and look at it? g: I need to know how many miles to know if I even want to make the trip. d: What is up with everyone wanting to know the mileage? sheesh... g: Is there a guy there I can talk to about the car. d: It is my car. Not my dads. Not my brothers. Mine. You have to talk to me. g: Can you get me the mileage? d: Hold on... [time...] d: OK, it is 14845. g: Hmmm. You are missing a number. d: It was in between numbers so I didn't know what it was... g: So it was the last number though... d: I guess! Look, do you want to come and see the car or what? g: No, I am looking for less miles. d: Oh my God! You made me go out there and find your mileage for you and now you aren't even going to come and look at it? Dude, I am a girl you know. I'm not supposed to do this kind of shit. ~click~ d: OH MY FUCKING GOD! PEOPLE ARE SO FUCKING STUPID! |
Unless your name is on the title, I would suggest to just step back. $.02
However, you should be keeping a video of this for YouTube. Great stuff. Tosh.0 might even use it. |
Let it ride.
She has to learn on her own. Tell her some sales tips though and make her sell it herself. Better keep her from doing any kind of sales job. |

I'd love to call though.

On a side note...
I just found out that "Not Me" broke my garden sprayer nozzle. If I ever meet that Not Me guy I am going to really kick his ass! |
you should go smack your daughter for being such a bitch... :2 cents:
its probably safe to say that you and her mother arent together anymore? apple doesnt fall far from the tree, ya herd.... . |

As for her mentality... I won't even go there... Let's just say I am glad I work in this industry and know what could happen to a girl that doesn't have enough parental support. |
i seriously lol'd at ur daughters answers on phone.,
but its like shes been taking this kind of crap her whole life, that "you are a girl" ,thats why she keeps saying "i m a girl". let it ride., mistake makes man/woman perfect....... u can suggest her few things though, after all shes ur daughter. good luck |
I have two daughters...
One is head strong, outgoing, smart, analytical, the list goes on... The other one thinks she is... and that is the scary part. BTW, that daughter that is headstrong, she is also in the dog house when it comes to helping sell the car... I tried recruiting her to pass off some tips and the "girly-girls" see her as part of the dark side. |
This could be it. Someone is coming to look at it.
Here is another thing on the "I'm a girl" part... While both daughters are pretty, this one is the glamorous one. So she has been using her beauty to get what she wants for years. I think her tact is, once I get you here I can put my hooks into you. Melt your heart. Get you to pay me all of the cash because... well.. I'm so pretty... She got that attitude from her bio-dads mom. She is the if ya got 'em, flaunt 'em! crowd. |
What scares the crap out of me is that there is someone who can legally drive yet doesn't understand that mileage it a huge factor when deciding a car's worth.
|
"I'm a girl" shouldn't be an excuse to stumble through life wallowing in ignorance and depending on others to hand-hold you through everything. I doubt anyone's going to step up and buy her vehicle for a fair price just because "she's a girl". (but I could be wrong on that, because for every girly-girl spouting "tee hee I don't know I'm just a girl" there's a sucker born every minute who'll lose his shirt for the minutest shot at getting in her pants).
I think I'd sit back and let her twist in the wind until the lightbulb goes on over her head and she gets the idea to ask for help from someone who knows what they're doing. |
help her for small fee :)

D2: We will see when you get stranded somewhere, someday... See how that works out for you. D1: OMG, Jay got us AAA stupid! OMG. You are so clueless, D2! D2 and I just share a look and a smile. |
Is this the Bronco for sale?

If she hasn't got a clue how to sell this one what on earth is she going to end up with as a replacement
|
You think this shit is funny now? Just wait and see how bad she gets ripped off when she goes to buy her next car. Cause, she's a girl. And a stupid one at that. Some salesman is going to be laughing about the idiot that he sold the piece of shit to for 3x what it was worth.
But yeah let this shit ride, it will make for a great story with the rest of the family during thanksgiving dinner. |

Burn the old shitty car and buy a new one to your daughter. She will make you happy with good marks from school.
|
Do a hostile take over and assume the deal, sell the car, get her a new one yada yada.
Or wait till you have to say "I told you so" |
You raised a fucking moron daughter, do the world a favor shoot her and yourself
|
SOLD!
She had two guys come at the same time. One older, one younger. The older guy got here first and just as most of you predicted... This is bad, that's toast, those need to go, nope, this is the wrong one, won't pass smog with that, this needs to be changed. Then the younger guy shows up. Oh, my dad and I can fix that... This is just fine, it's to be expected on a car this old... etc.. etc... The old guy was getting pissed! He had got my daughter to "think about" $1400 as a "high" offer with all of these problems it has... The young guy has $1800 in cash and later on confessed to her that he brought $2200 in case he got into a bidding war! He quickly handed her the $1,800 and the older guy split. Very pissed off. Like he was owed something and somebody took it.. lol Young guy got the car and I fully expected him to get her number too.. haha! As for buying another... Grandma and Auntie are taking her to do that next week. Someone will make a lot of money on that transaction... But it won't be my money. |
as much as it would be fun for the disaster to play out, you really should step in. Otherwise its gonna cost you in some unpredictable fashion.
disregard...you sold it. |

You might teach her how to check mileage and educate her on what counts as a lot and what counts as low. Then she should have the tools to know what she is looking at for her next car better with more independence. Sounds like she did an adequate job on the people aspect of selling, but she could stand to know more about the technical. |
