Anyone here had a truly unusual paranormal experience?

I should preface this post by saying I don't believe in the paranormal, spooks, ghosts, poltergeists...whatnot.

But for the past decade our house has been plagued with more unexplained occurrences than I can count.

And not your typical ghostly footsteps, knocks, sounds, etc.

But very different stuff.

All the furniture and items in an entire room re-arranged one time. Hamper drawers pulled out in an unusual pattern. Money that's appeared (twice). A wristwatch that vanished literally from under our noses and then re-appeared a day later on a different floor in a different room. And old coin from the late 1800s (from another country) appeared in the basement.

Female and male voices clearly heard by several family members on separate occasions in various rooms. The wife and daughter have both heard distinct footsteps on the second floor a few times - although I haven't heard this myself.

TVs that plugged themselves in and turned on. A brass lamp that did the same several times (I finally got rid of the lamp after growing tired and annoyed having to turn it off).

A camera mounted securely on a tripod in the studio that moved on its own during a photoshoot (and yet returned to the exact position WITHIN A PIXEL) to the previous frame.

My wife had a stack of newspapers fly up in the air directly in front of her - scared her to the point she left the house and waited on the back porch for me to get home from work before going back in the house.

We had a strange white light appear under a sofa in the studio one night that moved from one end to the other. Unusual perfume-like smells sometimes come and go.

The house is 128 yrs. old and is one of the originals on the street. It's about a hundred yards from the city's original hospital (now converted into a seniors condo residence).

Just curious if anyone else has experienced anything first-hand like this. It's driving me up the wall - as I said I don't believe in the supernatural or paranormal at all. But I'm growing more and more at a loss to explain much of this.

One time I tried nicotine gum, have a bad habit of swallowing gum, was working online just kept popping new ones, that night I swear I came out of my body and was looking down on myself. Nicotine is a hell of a drug :thumbsup

I had a problem for a while with something wrapping itself around me in the middle of the night -- or laying on top of me to where I couldn't move, or breathe. But I found out later it was something called Night Terrors, probably caused by stress -- and I was under a whole bunch of stress, trying to go to school, work and go through a divorce at the same time.

The internet was around, but it wasn't like a time when you could just go look something up and find a million answers to your problem in seconds. Back then, when fucked up shit happened you were stuck with it, unless you wanted to ask someone who was an expert on the subject.

At that time in my life, I came around to thinking some physical presence was with me in the room. I dreaded going to sleep. Of course it was my mind playing tricks on me.

kazbalah 08-26-2012 07:01 PM

Let me tell ya, ghosts are real. First there are WAY to many stories about them, from very credible people.

Second - My grand mothers house, a very old 100 year old house is haunted. We think someone hung themselves there.

The reason we think this - Is my grand mother saw a ghost hanging itself. Where the rope was going to the roof, the plaster keeps falling down, it has been fixed many times but it still keeps coming down.

Next, she was also woken to a cat walking over her body while she was sleeping - And it had the face of the devil..

My mother saw a black apparition come right up to her face - and kneel right down beside her while she was sleeping. There was no way for someone to get into her room without making a noise - As the door had those string beads on them, so it makes a noise when you enter the room.

My great grand mother kept hearing noises in the fire place - like a bird flapping. They checked many times, nothing in their. And the noises only happened when my grand father left for work, never when he was there.

My aunt has seen things move - A cup slide right across the table, many people saw this at once in fact.

And we as little kids, fucking HATED the hall way - We were not told about the ghosts at this time, it just had a super bad vibe.. we used to fight for the lounge away from the hall way.

I tell you one more - I was driving in a taxi one day, minding my own business - Then all of a sudden i drive past this house, i got a super bad vibe. This has never happened before, i just looked at the house and had a really bad feeling, i cant describe it.

I didnt think much about it - A day or two later, my m0mz tells me about this house my whole family went to rent - They said everyone got a super bad vibe, a really bad feeling about the house - One of the bedrooms in this house was locked, and no one was allowed to go in - I think someone got murdered there.

Guess which house this was? The one i drove past and got that super bad feeling from..

Trust me, ghosts do exist mate.. there are way to many stories.. my family are just normal people but we seen some shit thats for sure..

bronco67 08-26-2012 07:15 PM

When it comes to paranormal experiences, is there really a difference between "unusual" and "truly unusual"?

We have a daughter in the house - but much of the time she wasn't around when stuff was happening. And the times she was here and things went on...we knew it wasn't her.

One particular time she heard the exact same female voice (in the kitchen) that I'd heard in the third loft office - she described her as saying "Helloooo..." exactly the way I heard it.

Another time she heard a man's voice downstairs and it scared the hell out of her - shook her up quite a bit.

But the majority of things seem to happen when she's not even in the house. And many things have happened when I'm the only one here. I rule out anyone playing pranks for shits 'n giggles.

Very interesting...thanks for sharing.

That's the thing - we're a very normal family...and often when I hear stories like this about others there's usually some sort of dysfunction or inherent weirdness to the people involved. That's not the case here.

It's just flying in the face of my skepticism, and I'm at a loss to come up with plausible explanations for much of it.

Agreed, it's freaky. But not scary - at least not to me. It's more annoying than anything, especially not having explanations for it.

Of course, we've talked about going down to City Hall and looking up records to see if anyone died in the house in the past...but the non-believer in me keeps saying its a waste of time and still wouldn't explain much.

Just my manner of phrasing it, mostly.

Unusual being there's possibly logical explanations behind it other than supernatural or paranormal.

Truly unusual meaning no possible explanations.

Or something like that.

You say you do photo shoots, i presume you shoot content?

Why dont you setup some cameras and leave them running, you never know what you might catch on film.

xNetworx 08-26-2012 08:13 PM

Fan turned on in my room by itself after I hung up the phone once. That phone call was from my mother... letting me know that my grandfather had just passed away. i got chills typing this. I left my loft for a few days.

In college, heard strange noises outside my window and footsteps on the roof. Found out a girls body was found next to our house in 1978 and the killer was never caught but believed to be a drifter as the railroad was 1 block away.

SilentKnight 08-26-2012 08:19 PM

Had to dig through a lot of pics to find these two.

Top photo shows the way the hampers are usually kept in the studio - drawers fully closed.

Bottom pic shows the way we discovered them one morning.

One day we found every item in the studio moved into the middle of the floor in a line from one wall to the other - camera tripods, chairs, stools, a heater, dehumidifier, the hampers and a bunch of other things. We'd done a photoshoot the night before and everything had been stowed away as usual where it belonged. Wish I'd taken a photo of that one.

That's a possibility - we have a Sony digicam with a night shoot feature.

Problem is, it happens very intermittent...sometimes it'll go months between incidents, or even longer. And it seems to happen on all floors of the house - not confined to just one area.

This is the type of shit black people make fun of white people for in scary movies... "If the house is haunted, don't stay in the house! Leave dat shit! White people is crazy!"

That's eerie. Was it the only time the fan went on itself?

I know - it all sounds like a bad B-movie plot where everyone in the audience says, "Get the hell out, man."

Like I said, it's not scary...just annoying. There's no sense of malevolence to it...more mischievous than anything.

Vapid - BANNED FOR LIFE 08-26-2012 08:45 PM

Some crappy beings lived in your home who couldn't energy morph.

BIGTYMER 08-26-2012 08:54 PM

Yep. 100% swear to god. I had a little ghost kid scare me many times as a child. I wrote the whole story on here once before.

Vapid - BANNED FOR LIFE 08-26-2012 09:00 PM

No need to swear upon man made fiction, this is the reality of man.

kane 08-26-2012 09:10 PM

Growing up one of my friend's dad owned a bar that was in a fairly old building. While I never witnessed it he, his mom, dad and a few people that worked their all claimed that the place had a ghost in it that flushed the toilet.

Vapid - BANNED FOR LIFE 08-26-2012 09:13 PM

Bull shit!

papill0n 08-26-2012 09:14 PM

if you are witness to the level of paranormal activity you speak of then why dont you have your house rigged with every piece of technology imaginable and why arent i watching the videos instead of typing this crap

Tony Soundview 08-26-2012 09:24 PM

Wild story. Next time you are along in the house, ask the spirits how you can help them. They are sometimes lost spirits. Being latin and from the bronx, we believe SANTERA, a form of voodoo. Your house might not be the best place to live, depending on their answer. Good luck.

I have had an odd / unexplained experience.

When my wife and I moved to the Midwest, we lived with her Mother while our house was being built. One night I was up late working and heard some noise in the hallway. I figured someone was headed to the bathroom. After a few minutes, I got up to go get some water. When I stepped out into the hallway, I got a strong odor of Aqua Velva. My wife's Grandfather used to shower in that shit. He of course had been deceased for a few years at this point. A couple of hours later I hear walking in the hallway again. I step out into the hallway, and nobody is there. I continue down the hallway and look through the open door that leads downstairs. I see my wife's Grandfather standing at the bottom of the stairs. I chalk it up to being exhausted and go to bed. I get up the next morning, and go to the kitchen to find both my mother in law, and sister in law sitting at the table. I grab a cup of coffee and sit down. As we are talking, my sister in law brings up her Grandfather. My mother in law tears up and tells my sister in law not to worry. She said "Grandpa is fine. He came to see me last night". To this day, I have never said a word about it to my wife, her mother, or sister.

arock10 08-26-2012 09:49 PM

There are sheets on my bed which I swear are sleeping ghosts

Do you live in an earthquake/tremor prone area? Could the foundation of the really old house shifted slightly? Could there be a hollowed out area under your house and a big truck drove past? The way the drawers are opened is consistant with some sort of movement of the whole house. That brown bar there is also shifted over a few cm, and in the "sex scene" drawer at the bottom that white thingy has been rotated.

You could also probably stand to do away with that creepy head thing.

Serge Litehead 08-26-2012 11:44 PM

get a cat. if there's anything out of ordinary there like you say it could be fun to watch cat react.

once quantum physics advances enough i think all this paranormal stuff would be easily explained. something like holes in a membrane or another membrane in close proximity, or some sub-quantum warps, etc.

Each set of draws is on wheels, nothing on top fell over or off yet the earthquake was forceful enough to open only the draws?

The thing is everything is moved slightly, and the drawers might be slightly angeled downward or something. Look at the podium for the head for instance. It's relocated a little. How often would someone move that thing?

Dirty Dane 08-27-2012 04:31 AM

Had an alien blowjob.

CurrentlySober 08-27-2012 04:37 AM

Many years ago, we did a ouija board, on a stump of a tree in the woods...

It spelt out P... E... T... R... O... L.... and we left, leaving behind the board and planchette

A few hours later, (after calming down) we returned for the board. The entire area had been completely burnt out, the grass, the stump, the surrounding trees etc... but the board and the planchette were still on the stump, completely unharmed...

I just re-read SK's post, it is not a before and after.

I do see what you are saying, however I would have thought that if there was enough force to open the draws, then it would have been likely for a few things to fall off the top of the draws too.
