It's Here ? Handgun Game Changer !!!

Wiki Weapons Fires First 100% 3D-Printed Handgun ? This sure alters future gun availability debates.

* Defense Distributed's Wiki-Weapons project fired the "Liberator," its .380 handgun that was created completely with a 3D printer.
* The 15 of the 16 parts created using the technology took just 24 hours to print.
* The blueprint for the Liberator has been posted online, free for anyone to download.
* Lawmakers have since renewed calls for bans on 3D printed firearms that could be undetectable by security sensors.

The only part not printed was the firing pin which needs a harder material.

crockett 05-06-2013 10:50 AM

Yes but with one printer, how many guns can you make?

Will there be background checks for printers?

It don't see a positive here anywhere. As 3d printers become cheaper and more advanced the guns will improve as well.

What's next 3d claymore mines? Just add nails and powder?

HushMoney 05-06-2013 10:56 AM

watching it on CNN right now. Scary thought that anyone can download and make it if they have a 3-D printer.

So basically only the bullet would trigger airport security? Or would the mass of plastic also set sensors off?

Relentless 05-06-2013 11:06 AM

Been saying this for a year or more...
3D printing makes gun laws obsolete.
The best thy can do s regulate ammunition.
People can make gunpowder but it could be regulated like psticides and other substances
Mechanical objects can all be printed

John-ACWM 05-06-2013 11:07 AM

Reminds me of an episode from The Big Bang Theory :)

Jman 05-06-2013 11:08 AM

Our priorities are all fucked up. Spend money on research to print guns while half the world as nothing to eat or drink.

Fuck Yeah!!!!

k0nr4d 05-06-2013 11:09 AM

This may very well be the absolute worst thing that has ever happened to man-kind.

Imagine what 5 or 6 more years of technology upgrading will produce ?

No kidding. In 5 year's you'll have plastic automatic assault rifles. In 20 years the US will look like Mad Max or Fallout...

k0nr4d 05-06-2013 11:28 AM

3D printing in itself is a great thing. There was many times where I wanted to make something that would be too difficult to fabricate by hand (for instance some sort of blanking plate for something etc). However, when it comes to anyone now being able to print a gun (and of course both the models and printing technology will improve) I would be fucking scared to leave my house, let alone take any sort of public transportation or go anywhere like a mall. This can have far reaching consequences beyond crime.

Staples sells a 3d printer now for 1500.00

CPA37710T 05-06-2013 12:26 PM

i cant wait to have 3d printed food, you just buy flavored paper and it will print the burger!

I just saw this on CNN while I was eating lunch. Kind of scary. Eventually anyone will be able to create a firearm in their own home. When these printers become more advanced... It will be a game changer for sure.

In 1933 this technology could have saved millions of lives.

:1orglaugh Because cost per unit is the turn off? Not that the cost is a factor, how about thinking about one key detail about a printer...it can repeat the process infinitely... :2 cents:

@ OP - wonder if it will ever be possible to print the shells too or a good portion of it.

Obviously more guns is a good thing. Just look at the USA why.

Once we can print out our own robot overlords everything will be fine.

FlowerKid 05-06-2013 12:52 PM

Well, you can also build a gun by yourself without a 3D printer, so this "news" don't impress me at all. You don't have to be MacGyver to build weapons in your garage.

Exactly, building a gun in your garage is just as easy as pushing a button on your printer.

Many of the murders in my country are done by 1 shot homemade guns. They walk right up to the person and shoot them in the head with it.

Naturally that is what you took from my post. I overstated with *infinite* however I think you have to be able to grasp the concept of a printer.

However if you do not, a printer enables you to make multiple exact copies of whatever it is that it can print (in this case almost any object - case in point - GUN).

I love that you think this printer requires ink.
