Stop calling it fucking "Soccer!"

It's football.

The worlds biggest game. Not that rugby type american game with all that padding for sissees.

Come on Greece, show those frogs the way home tonight.

DutchTeenCash 06-25-2004 04:27 AM

relax american football is just a spinoff :

To most of the world, "football" means soccer. And in Australia, "football" refers to a game that looks a lot like rugby. As it turns out, American football comes from both of these sports -- football and rugby. Rugby began in 1823 at the famous Rugby Boys' School in England. The idea of running the football into the end zone to score a goal comes from rugby. Soccer is also from England, and was played as early as the 1820s. Kicking a ball through posts to score a goal comes from soccer. As I found out in our American Football Category, our version of football was invented in the 19th Century by college students looking to make up their own version of rugby and soccer. By the 1920s, the United States had its own professional football league.

that's only half correct
it depends on which state of Australai you live in .

Only in NSW and QLD do peopel refer to Rugby as football
in all other states Football is Australian Rules Football which is a spin off of Gaelic Football
the rules are basically the same only the ball is oval shaped and there's no headbutts

Then it's a perfect name for a gay sport.

How gay is it to play a sport for 90 fuckin' minutes that doesn't allow you to show any skill/offence, because there are too many fuckin' people on the field?

The ancient Jews invented the tower of Babel story just for this realization - that different people in different parts of the world have different words for things. It makes sense to call the sport "football" in most parts of the world and everyone knows what that means. In the US, however, the word "football" is already in use for a sport. The term soccer was invented in England by the way. So anyway, we'll have to agree to disagree and there will always be a little confusion.

gornyhuy 06-25-2004 06:08 AM

Lets just all agree that its a boring wimpy fucking sport that only half wits give a fuck about.

Alright... here's the deal. Everyone in the UK has to start calling a cigarette a cigaratte. It's not a fag. Everyone in the UK has to start calling the trunk of a car the trunk.... it's not a boot.

Look up "fag" and "boot" in the dictionary some time. Then, report it back to the masses in your country. Once those two things are fixed (amongst other things), then we'll consider calling it Football. :winkwink:
