Just found out one of my employees is a Meth addict.. advice?

Yeah, so I found out one of the very promising coders I have regurarly uses Meth.. I have heard about the shit and it seems worse than crack - kicking the habit usually is close to impossible. Anyone got some advice, experiences etc? Appearantly he has been using it for more than 5 years...
Thx!

Sly 12-28-2009 08:55 PM

Have him come over and clean your house.

fl_prn_str 12-28-2009 08:56 PM

you sum bitch.....you absolutely must terminate them with extreme prejudice.

jMEGA 12-28-2009 08:56 PM

How do you think he is able to stay up all night and code without meth? :)

L-Pink 12-28-2009 08:56 PM

Dump him fast.

.

ShellyCrash 12-28-2009 08:56 PM

Do you have insurance? Some insurance plans actually cover drug counciling and rehab. Do what you can to clean him up - don't enable his habit.

Already tried that - the resulting wear and tear of the furniture costs me too much.

JD 12-28-2009 08:57 PM

if it's not effecting his work it's none of your business

What business is it of his to "clean him up"?

You can't help somebody that doesn't want to be helped.

I am not in the US and nor is he, but relocating him has struck my mind. Meth, shabu, seem to be used quite a lot in the Philippines..

There is no happy ending when meth use gets heavy, and it always does. Dump him.

You are right about this, but on a "friend" basis I do of course feel for him. And, like they say, it becomes a problem when your addiction affects your life/work and thats indeed what has happened now - thus also making it my problem. The guy is "ill" every second/third day and blablabla

Relapse city most of the time. Which is tragic but not the employers problem.

BillyHoe 12-28-2009 09:08 PM

Don't pay him in advance for work, aside from that what he does in his personal time isn't really anyone business but his own. I'd have a backup plan though. Cause when he dies, or goes to jail, you'll need another coder, and if he's been hitting it for 5 yrs one of the two is gonna happen soon. You don't occasionally smoke Meth. So his habit is only gonna grow, so figure 5 yrs he's probably got quite the habit :( Good luck

shwsrvcs 12-28-2009 09:30 PM

you CAN occasionally do meth.... you CAN occasionally do anything. and a addictive personality is an addictive personality. if you don't have one, you don't. There is alot in the human mind that dictates addiction and control.

You need to rectify the situation with your own personal experiences and judgment. If he has been using it for 5 years and is still one of your promising coders, maybe he's not one of the ones who lets his use dictate his life.

Ooops.. didn't read this part... yeah.. dump him. only by losing everything can someone find themselves laying prostate on the floor at 25 or 6 to 4 (3:35 or 3:34 am) and make the necessary changes to be normal.

I probably wouldn't get involved... you can't help him anyway, if he wants to do that shit, he will, no matter what you do...:2 cents:

DBS.US 12-28-2009 09:44 PM

Don't do anything yet. I'm still working on a cash deal with him for all your computer gear.

As hard as it may be . Kick that dude to the curb like now.

Get your ducks in a row ( Passwords and all the important info) . Trusting this guy will be your doom.

Trust me I've been fucked hard by a tweaker that worked for me. Really really hard

That's debatable. What the employee is doing is extremely illegal.

Vendzilla 12-28-2009 10:06 PM

Seen this too many times, rehab doesn't work, the only thing I have seen work is changing everything, like moving to a new place and get new friends.
About the only thing that works, they have to hit rock bottom to figure out they have to change

3:33am ... There's is something about this time that could be evil or inspiring. I can't put my finger on it.

american pervert 12-28-2009 10:10 PM

i think it depends. if he comes into the office, i would stop that shit real fast.

if he works at home and gets his shit done on time, fuck it. last thing you want for him to not have any income from you and have him resort to finding other ways to make it.

besides, if his work doesn't suffer then you just need to let him worry about his morals.

they will let you down, thats for sure. it's just how much access you give him. let him access a server that is cut off from everything on your network and you won't need to worry about him stealing your data.

if the guy is a good worker, no need to punish him, he will do it to himself sooner or later.

magpan 12-28-2009 10:18 PM

He's a liability, in every sense. Out the door. :thumbsup
