OK, I have a problem with this, when I had a clearance in the Navy, I was careful about everything. I was told the story about what happened in WWII when a government official in a speech said the cruising depth of the submarines was 400ft and then the enemy set their depth charges to 400 ft and we lost a bunch of submarines because of it.

Now we have some asshole thats going to release a bunch of Top Secret Info and what's our government doing about it?

Too bad we have a spineless president, Reagan would have someone put a bullet in the back of his head, but our present administration is trying to talk him into not releasing this?

Id say release every fucking thing thats top secret, but they wont because the stupid sheep would be in awe how they are being fucked by their own government. Most, if not all, of the docs being "leaked" are presumably way below "Top Secret" / "Secret".

Wikileaks seems to be more of an annoyance to the U.S. government than a real threat ... from my understanding, much of what's being "leaked" are numerous internal agency documents of relatively little importance; revealing little that's not already publicly known.

What exactly is our government supposed to do about it? We can't arrest him, he's not American and hasn't committed a crime inside of Sweden. We can't even block his website; We can block it from the US but what god does that do if the rest of the world can see it?

Actually, I had hair half way down my back, wore bell bottom jeans and smoked pot as a teenager. During the 70's that is. As far as Vietnam, I was told is was really a fight between the US and the USSR as told by my government teacher inn high school. I'm against war and against foreign countries getting the technology to attack the US, like the plans for the lafayette class submarine given to the French, then them giving it to the USSR, or that the screws for submarines are made in china now because we cant. Or selling arms to middle east countries.

Freedom of information - we should be able to get all of this. If someone dies because of it then they died for our freedom...isn't that what it's all about??

At least that's what the Captain America types would have you believe. Unless it's not really about freedom at all but about murdering people in which case I can see why people would be angry.

People who died in submarines as a result of the rest of us allowed the freedom to know what our government is doing are the true sacrifices of freedom, not the soldiers who die as they attempt to kill anyone who doesn't agree with their commander's philosophy of life. Those ones, hate to say it, deserved to die.

Well, forums are made for "quick judgements", aren't they? LOL If you feel that way, being against war and such, then I apologize for my comments. Lumping every ex-Military man in with all the gung-ho kill freaks this current Armed Forces seem to attract is always a bad thing, so again: apologies.

Being a realist, while I wish THIS country (USA) didn't have such capabilities either I understand the horse has left the barn, or whatever.
