anexsia 11-20-2013 04:56 PM

People still used Winamp? I remember using that in 1999 or 2000

wehateporn 11-20-2013 05:02 PM

Free version was too good maybe, or just AOL mismangement?

mineistaken 11-20-2013 05:05 PM

Why? If i owned winamp I would not close down, I would try to monetize.. Last resort - selling it.

Rochard 11-20-2013 05:07 PM

I used to use Winamp a long, long time ago. Didn't know it was still around.

After 15 years of llama-whipping, AOL shuts down Winamp for good
Former Winamp employees blame - AOL mismanagement that began over a decade ago.

Something similar for me until a buddy at one of my old jobs asked me why the hell I was using Windows Media Player instead of Winamp; it was simply because I'd forgotten about it. :2 cents:

skrog 11-20-2013 05:36 PM

I still use Winamp. Sad to see it go. :(

HomerSimpson 11-20-2013 05:53 PM

I remember that my computer running at 133MHz couldn't even play music in Winamp back at the days... It was ages ago... Too bad they're shutting it down...

bns666 11-20-2013 06:12 PM

Why? most people I know, including me, still use it for mp3 playing as well. Not a fan ow windows media player and VLC is better for movies because its not so convenient for mp3 as winamp.

It does not answer my question, rather confirms the validity of it. It is still making millions a year, why not leave it be?

I never stopped using winamp. I stream shoutcast radio stations, even in car while driving.

freecartoonporn 11-20-2013 07:08 PM

I still use Winamp. Sad to see it go.

same and with the old skin

SlammedMedia 11-20-2013 07:39 PM

wow...I've been rocking the web for almost 20 years, and winamp has been there though most of them. It's a piece you don't want to see go.

woj 11-20-2013 07:50 PM

I've been using it since it pretty much came out... it's a solid piece of software... why would they shut it down?

so what's a good replacement anyway? is there really anything better with the same number of plugins, visualizations, etc?

Elli 11-20-2013 07:59 PM

Yep, I still use Winamp for my playlists and Shoutcast for radio. iTunes is just too frustrating.

DAMNMAN 11-20-2013 08:33 PM

Still use winamp too. Got it setup just the way I like it. Does everything I need.
Bummer

Deputy Chief Command 11-20-2013 08:42 PM

so , thats the official explanation? now gives us the truth? any conspiracy theories flowing around about this shutdown ? must be more to it then just them being utter crap

Lonny 11-20-2013 09:04 PM

Been using winamp since it;s early days. Started using a winamp clone called Audacious almost two years now.
http://audacious-media-player.org/
also runs on windows for you non linux heads for anyone thats intrested.

The Porn Nerd 11-20-2013 09:14 PM

There was a neat converting trick I used to use with Winamp, to convert FLAC files. You had to also use iTunes so it was clunky but 'old school' still works.

Sad to see Winamp go!

NinjaSteve 11-20-2013 10:29 PM

They should sell it to ICQ!

spunky99 11-20-2013 11:06 PM

that sucks, i still use it, hate itunes

bdld 11-20-2013 11:45 PM

doesn't surprise me, as aol is running it.

MrMaxwell 11-21-2013 12:06 AM

I'm risking my life here, but since this is GFY...AOL are Illuminiati you see

Winamp was a good quality free product i.e. had to be stopped. Without making it too obvious they had to kill it off, slowly but surely making sure that it wasn't a success, allowing other Illuminati controlled players to take control of the market Windows Media Center to be a paid upgrade in Windows 8, eventually we will be left with no choice but to pay for a decent media player. The player will make tonne of money and will also report details of exactly what we watch and listen to.

While I have just made that up off the top of my head, it's possible I've accidentally stumbled upon the truth :upsidedow They buy the competition and they kill it! :2 cents:

Remember folks, you heard it first on GFY :winkwink:
