As I wrote in Shap's thread, I said that when I ask my friends where they buy their porn online, they always tell me one of the big free tubes.

So I pick up someone today I haven't seen in about 10 years, he tells me that he heard I was in the Adult Business and said I shouldn't be ashamed of it. I said I'm not, then he said, I'm actually proud of you, with all the free porn you can get nowadays, why would anyone pay for it. He isn't even web savvy.

Maybe we should all ask 5 new friends and see what they say. And log them here. Anyone down?

Most of my experiences in the past year have been the same. Except my lawyer. He told me his PPV bill is out of control and he needs to look to getting an online membership to save money. $300 a month on ppv is killing him LOL

We really need to spread the word that free porn is what causes Viruses, maybe that will stick in their head and they can spread the word.

I looked on my 19 year old brothers computer the other day. Not one porn site bookmarked but in his most visited top10 sites was a tube site and one that has been around for quite a while. He hasn't even found the more popular ones.

Just insane.

Here is a question. Would you ever admit to paying for porn? I wouldn't. It's a pretty embarrassing thing to admit imo.

Just shows, even if 7 out of 10 people are not paying for porn, we are still making a decent living off the 3 that pay.

My friends are straight out. They have nothing to hide. I asked one of my friends a few years ago and he said, Bang Bus was his favorite site, He even asked if I had a password to the site so he didn't have to pay for it anymore and I said No, Pay for it.

If you think about it it's probably more like 10,000 to 1 (free to paying porn surfers) if not more.

even my wife surfs the tubes a few hours a day. she would never break out a cc to watch free entertainment. there's no money in porn.

Outside of piracy, the problem isn't that it's free porn or people saying what the next hot free site is - that's not new. The problem is these tubes don't share traffic with the rest of the adult Industry like the old free sites did.

This cuts into the adult traffic bubble and captures it without putting it back... it's the same free site surfers, they just moved.

Did anybody notice that most tube sites dont have full brazzers videos on them? maybe thats why they bought them...

Every day I hear people saying 'Why would I pay for porn?' or 'I would never pay for porn'. Still, fortunately for us, someone, somewhere still does.

Tube sites are low level shit, the upsell for me is high end webcam girls.

I wrote this a while back in a different thread. I have a friend who had always been a porn buyer. He would join a site, stay a member for a few months then cancel and join another site. He told me he would be a paying member of a site for at least 11 out of 12 months per year. He found a few tube sites and hasn't joined a site in months and says he probably never will again. He isn't into anything niche, just likes regular hardcore stuff and there is more of that out there for free than you could watch in a lifetime.

Who says that all surfers on the big tube sites would have bought porn online were it nowhere to be found for free?

I keep wondering why people think that... It goes the same with movies or music... I am very very sure that a LOT of people out there are downloading music or movies that they would have never ever bought a CD from before... obviously people also d/l stuff they would have bought... but why are we so sure thats the vast majority?

Noone seems to consider how much money we are talking about if all those people watching porn for free were actually to buy it, we would ALL be billionaires!! And if that were the case, why are we not already anyway considering tubes are only 2-3 years old?! The web has not grown THAT much in those years, we should have had millions of paying new members DAILY if these assumptions were all true...

Sure, some people are nolonger buying that would have bought before.. on the other hand, way more people are exposed to the brands out there because of the tubes, and if the quality were very good on the other paysites would this not cause a branding effect of some sort?

Last time I checked, watching series on tv is free... why do people buy tons of DVDs all of a sudden of all these series? Why does apple sell tons of movies and series on itunes? I seem to be missing something...

- Those that are NOT netsavvy.
- Those that are interested in a niche that isnt on the tubes like mad.
- Those that fall madly in love with a pornmodel and want all their videos in the highest quality.

Oh and 4: People that want to surf porn on their phone, because they still have a hard time finding full free porn because flash isnt playing on their phones.

porn has always been an impulse buy. your statement indicates that you don't know how porn site marketing works - or worked before tubes.

many of us made a lot of money pushing a hot chick at a guy and giving him no other choice but to buy. he would stumble on some hot sexy teaser tgp and want more. before tubes there was only one way to get more of that model - break out the plastic.

it was an impulse buy (usually one-handed) and that impulse is now gone because he can watch enough of that model to blow a load just by googling her name. even computer illiterates know how to google.

no one said ALL the free porn surfers would buy, but a hell of a lot more of them were buying a few years ago.

Sounds familiar. I know people that can barely turn on their computer and they love to tell me about their favorite tube sites.

To the less able internet user EVERYTHING comes from Google.

Search for porn gets me 3 tube sites as the first results.

Until you can overcome that with a winning Google position OR a way of making tube sites frowned upon anybody new to the internet is being pointed in the direction of everything for free without even trying.
Well you can make sites that deliberately fuck peoples computer and install one of those you've got a virus now buy our solution scam things then get media attention saying free porn is dangerous BUT I don't think you will convert someone who is messed about like that from free to paying I think you are more likely to get into another round of hysterical porn is the work of the devil nonsense hurting paysites too.

Not an internetty thing but attitudes can be changed it just normally takes actual force rather than choice. When I was little cars didn't have seatbelts, now when I drive around not wearing one people will make a point of telling me I'm a cunt. Same with drink driving too, nobody used to give a shit and now its a very bad thing. Currently they are trying to do the same thing with speeding and making out that going over the artificially low speed limit is going to kill you and although most regular business drivers can see through it as just a money making opportunity on fines there are a huge amount of casual drivers that are letting themselves be brainwashed about it and then repeating what they have been fed.

Now try doing all that with free porn. You have to make it both illegal with huge punishment AND kill polar bears, so you stop the distribution both on a free sharing is going to get you in trouble way and also a socially responsible smug git way too.

What I can see happening though for tubes is some sort of conversion from giving it all away free to once you have a regular visitor base that is always coming back to your site you introduce a fee. I've seen warez sites shut the doors to members and get a nice income off of selling VIP to get back in so I'm sure it could work for tubes too.
Its an old business model anyway to build up on stolen/free then turn it over to being all legal just not everybody can do it in a money making way.

If tubes all start charging then the circle comes back around to paysites getting members just because people will begin to get used to porn requires a fee. The only problem is that now bandwidth is so cheap you will always have a few people with no business sense that will chase pageview stats rather than profit (still havn't seen any money stats on the person who complained about thehun).

Music used to only come as a whole tape/record/cd then there was Napster and now people seem happy to buy a lot of individual tracks. Not sure how to follow that example but it must be possible somehow.
