Massive alexa set back :waaaaahh

well, back in November all seemed going well-ish, was busy on twitter and stuff and had rank down to below 3mill and dropping but then lost internet for a month. During that time everything went stale and alexa rank shot through the roof...in a bad bad BAD way, it hit 7mill :waaaaahh just shoot me.
Back on line now and back to trying to get this back together and going again. Rank coming down again and hope a lot soon.
Can't post to a bunch of places like linkspun as rank no longer low enough <random throwing stuff tantrums...

Could really use a little help getting things going better

Need this to work somewhat. Though I am disabled I got a job but they quit calling me in because they worry about my physical problems even though I told them it was my problem to deal with, those bastards...

Anywho needed to vent and hope some day to get this to work with or without help.

thanks for reading

Alexa isn't really a useful metric. Don't sweat it.

celandina 01-25-2015 09:39 AM

For us 2 good affiliates took us from about 1 mil. to just under 500 K and the sales reflected it also. We were well below 100 K before they changed their algorithms, but then went down to 1 mil and so went the sales. Alexa is now our "bible".:thumbsup

Forget about Alexa because is not accurate at all , I have 2 site getting the same amount of traffic one of them has 12mil on alexa and the other one is on 1340874 and i repeat they got the same amount of traffic they have the same age only that they are hosted in different ips ! I don't even check it anymore !

My best site went from 700k to 1m in a week, at 1.2 mil now. Funny fucked up thing is, site has grown in daily traffic by 30% in the last month lol. Get more traffic than before, and rank goes down.

LizardKing 01-25-2015 12:41 PM

Alexa is quite a good metric to say if a site has some traffic or not. Tho as a site-owner I'd always go for internal analysis.
Especially sites with higher ranking can be very volatile. Also the additional infos like "country" are usually not corrent. For example for my site iwantporn Alexa says the most traffic comes from india, but placed no.4 on my internal analysis.

When I installed the Alexa toolbar, I brought my freshly-launched sites to the 200-300k range after a month or two.

When I uninstalled the toolbar, those sites dropped to 700k-1MM+.

Alexa is not a good metric. Never was, never will be. It's trivial and cheap to pump.

Sounds like OP just needs to install the toolbar to make up those sweet worthless gains.

There are much better metrics to obsess about. How's yall's Google rankings? #1? :1orglaugh

Pwmp 01-25-2015 02:42 PM

Alexa is just a measure to make webmasters feel like they are doing something good lol. As was Google Pagerank for the last 12 years or so. Pagerank is dead, Alexa is whacked out. I lean on moz DA and PA if anything. What I really give a shit about is overall hits and profits lol thats my ranking :D

Thats why I wrote that its bad/very volatile for high ranking websites.

Show me how to get a ranking below 100k or event 50k without real decent hits. ;)

shemaleheaven 01-26-2015 01:01 PM

I never trusted Alexa, my site scores pretty high (or low). It went to 1 million+ when I was on holiday as well and at the same time my site was temporarily blocked by Google because of the whole JuicyAds malware hack thingy in november..

fappingJack 01-26-2015 07:56 PM

back on track now? goodluck :)

Google "buy alexa ranking".

Focus 01-27-2015 01:55 PM

Alexa rank is a real joke, I dont get how people think its reliable. Its just a marketing scheme for them to make people pay for their service by feeding some crap lol use internal analysis and you can see your real gain and lost on traffic.

bns666 01-27-2015 02:08 PM

yeah alexa is not reliable anymore

Denny 01-27-2015 02:35 PM

You should care about $$$ you are making not some useless shit like Alexa rank.

WDRockstar 01-28-2015 12:59 AM

Alexa ranking can be cheated using bots... :pimp

Freax 02-01-2015 07:32 AM

I give a shit on Alexa. I care about what's on my bank account at the end of the month ;-)
So don't worry too much...

desibees 02-04-2015 02:15 PM

I think Alexa ranking does not depend only upon your sites UV/day
It Takes into consideration
Unique visitors
Page views
Page / visit
Bounce%
Search engine traffic %
Avg online time
Geo
ect ect

Alexa also has Daily/Weekly/Monthly/3Month Ranking
Which can be checked in qango (dot) com

I don't say Alexa is perfect
But Reliable and has no alternatives

And also I'm confident that who ever can understand Alexa well can surely improve their sites as well.
So better try to understand rather then complaining Alexa just for the reason u have a poor Alexa ranking.

baggg 02-10-2015 04:36 AM

Alexa is not accurate and nobody takes seriously anyomere. They now charge money to add your site too.If you ever talk to mainstream marketers about alexa ranking they will just laugh at you.
Just a heads up, so you dont looks stupid next time

lollipopx 02-11-2015 08:07 PM

Update here.
Been busy with lot of stuff but also some work on site. Come to find out there has been some issue with the dns name server and ip not pointing correctly to same whatever something another.....anyway it was like having two shadow sites confusing the shirt out of each other as well as me and the SEs. lollipopx and www lollipopx actually went to two different yet same sites. Both identical just one was like old site shadow and the other was the new one with updates. So things were kinda bugfuggled to say the least.
At this point I have gotten sites alexa down to 3.3mil at this moment, hopefully the bugfuggle being fixed will help that continue to improve now that all the pointers point at the right site address.
As far as why worry about alexa rank? Most adult sites will not even care to trade banners, links, traffic etc with you if this is bad high rank. Even sites like linkspun requires your alexa rank to be in an acceptable range.

pergamino 02-14-2015 03:38 AM

I find similarweb.com to be more accurate than alex :)

blinki bill 02-14-2015 08:38 AM

Maybe I don't understand how alexa works nowadays but I don't really care as their algorithms are complete crap. It is a complete mismatch with my internal stats, 5-6 years ago it used to reflect my internal stats so as I see it - it used to be reasonably accurate and I could judge other sites by it but nowadays it's complete crap and I am in the dark.
I know people like to jump you with "Low rank looser complaining" but it goes both ways, as far as I see it on my sites the rank is all over the place and very rarely matches the actual internal stats.
The only sites where I see it being more accurate are < 100k, the lower the better, I guess the more traffic the more accurate it gets, but if a site is > 100k mark it basically means nothing, site with 500k alexa can have half the traffic of a site with 2mil alexa

You shouldn't sweat it too much unless you need rank to trade traffic/links with other webmasters who still rely on outdated metrics like alexa and pagerank

Heres the stumper, as a new webmaster your told you need this in order to do exactly this to help boost you with other webmasters. ..

on flip side of the funny farm, alexa rank still floating downward around the 3mill mark and bouncing some days. Something recently done seemed to help a little. Not sure what it was but will keep doing it lol.

lollipopx 04-27-2015 10:17 AM

929532 and dropping like a rock. Wooot
