anyone take their dog on the plane?

Im thinking about going down to florida for a couple weeks next month, and I dont wanna leave her here, I could leave her at a place where they board dogs, but they charge insane rates $1000+ for 2 weeks.

Plus I think she would go nuts without seeing me for a day.

Plus, do vets give you a sedative if you want her to sleep while underneath where they store them?

a) you can find flights that allow you to keep your pet with you and yes most vets will give you something to calm to pets nerves down.

b) its not a good idea to let them put your pet with the cargo, there are non stop horror stories.

here is a list of airlines that allow pets with you http://www.petflight.com/airlines/carry-on

These guys http://petairways.com/ will take your pet on a plane, they have handlers on board etc then you meet your pet at the destination, its another option

Depends on the size of your dog. I intended to bring Buddy home as carry on, but he grew too much, too quickly and had to go in cargo.

Never sedate your dog. If you were flying in the winter you would have to deal with weather issues but it should be warm enough that it would not be an issue this time of year.

My dog flew a few times in cargo, only thing that sucks is that you gotta pay for a full price ticket

My ex flew her Jack Russell under the seat in front of her. Had to sedate him for the trip. My kids three summers ago went home with the dogs I bought them, didn't need to be sedated at all, but they were puppies.

Talk to your Vet about, and also make sure that the airline allows it. Some airlines have a limit on how many pets can be flown at any given time by all their passengers, so make sure they know when you buy your tickets.

Good luck Fris!

If the carrier is small enough it should not be a problem. I don't recall how much Buddy weighed at the time but the carrier was too big to go as carry-on.

Change airlines. I paid $100.

I brought my cat with me...and she doesn't like to go anywhere. The vet gave me some pills for her, which helped. She's also 12 pounds and she went in a carrier under the seat in front of me. Just make sure you bring a leash, as they make you take the animal out of the carrier when you go through security.
