CDN Resident sentenced to death for running adult site

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...rticle1825999/

Quote:

An Iranian engineer living in Canada was sentenced to death by an Iranian court on Saturday.

Saeed Malekpour, 35, was earlier convicted of being ?corrupt on earth? and a ?warrior against God? after being accused of running a website with adult content.

His wife in Richmond Hill, Ont. said Saturday?s verdict, made by a single judge, was delivered to Mr. Malekpour in Tehran?s notorious Evin Prison, where he has been held since soon after his trip to Iran in October, 2008.
anyone know this guy or the site?

Phoenix 12-06-2010 11:32 AM

why would anyone go to iran anyway?

hes crazy, and also..if he is a real cdn citizen..what right do they have to even touch him?

beerptrol 12-06-2010 11:35 AM

His first mistake was going back to Iran

"Mr. Malekpour is not a Canadian citizen, but that does not absolve Canada of responsibility to speak for him. A Department of Foreign Affairs spokesman said “Canada remains deeply concerned by the continued flagrant disregard of the Iranian authorities for the rights of both Iranian and dual-national citizens.”

A lot of Iranians moved to North America during the Revolution. They still have family and ties, they go back and visit. I know several that visit fairly often. I always thought it was risky considering a lot of their family was in jail, the things you do for family...

Lol, if you are travelling abroad you have to follow the laws of the country you're visiting.

If he broke a law, punishable by death in Iran, he'll be killed, no matter what citizenship he's got.

i dont think so.

although to be sure...im staying out of iran

_Richard_ 12-06-2010 12:13 PM

he'd have to follow the laws.. that being said, those laws would apply to his actions within the country.. setting up a site, going to iran, then arbitrarily being sentenced to death is extreme.

the fact the judge states he wasn't the one who ordered the sentence is also fubar

PR_Glen 12-06-2010 12:18 PM

i'm not big on the death penalty in general, but killing people for adult websites?? that's beyond fucked up...

brassmonkey 12-06-2010 12:29 PM

omg!

The death penalty was carried out at least 388 times in Iran last year. :helpme

didn't they let him finish? beating pudd? :helpme

Shedevils 12-06-2010 01:01 PM

This is why you never talk about doing adult. There is always someone who will shake you down for it.

He didn't commit the "crime" in Iran. He committed it in Canada. This would be like you beating somebody up in Brazil, visiting the United States and having the American police throw you behind bars for your crime in Brazil. Typically, if anything, you would be extradited. The United States would not put you in an American jail because you beat someone up in Brazil.

beerptrol 12-06-2010 01:16 PM

I bet If an male Iranian gets groped by a male TSA before their trip home, they would hang him for being gay

Imagine some crazy hitler dude gets into power in 20 years time...

And he wants to cleanse all the impurities in the world.. so everyone who ever setup an adult site gets killed.

niiiiiiiice.

The question is was he doing porn related biz there. if so then he broke a law and will have to pay the price. But if they just grabbed him because he owns and operated them from CDN than that shit.

Fuck religion.

DaddyHalbucks 12-06-2010 03:18 PM

Iran is brutally repressive.

Socks 12-06-2010 03:35 PM

I wonder if had a citizenship application submitted... We applied for my wife almost 2 years ago now I believe, still in the queue.

We probably started her whole process 6 or 7 years ago now, though I bet we didn't file for citizenship the moment we could have.

Davy 12-06-2010 03:40 PM

So an official judge can accuse you of being a "warrior against god" in that country?
How backwards.

Problem with that is it isn't a crime in Canada. I'm sure Iran knows this and knows if he's sent back here he won't be punished.

That's assuming of course that his site is just a regular ol' porn site, not cp etc.

Well, if the guy is american, that is exactly what is going to happen ....

Think abiut the RUSSIAN arm dealer extradited to the USA... Aside from making a dent in the US business, what crime has he commited in the US ...

I think Iran is stupid to play that game, but the guy was even more stupid to go there considering his activities ...

Hummmmmm , I ran a camp in Afghanistan, I think I will visit Time Square for New Year ... :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Iran... and "rights" don't exactly go hand and hand. They can do what the hell they want to over there to anyone in their country. But the US is bad because we have body scanners in the airports.... :helpme:upsidedow

Shey 12-07-2010 01:15 AM

Quote:

Mr. Malekpour was arrested during a visit home to his ailing father. He worked as a freelance website designer in Canada and admitted to running the website, which has since been taken down, in a confession played on national TV in March 2009. Three days later, his father died.

Ms. Eftekhari says Mr. Malekpour?s online profile had been used without his permission to create the website.

In a March 2010 open letter to Iranian officials, Mr. Malekpour described his treatment in prison prior to the confession: ?While I remained blindfolded and handcuffed, several individuals armed with cables, batons, and their fists struck and punched me.? There were ?constant threats to arrest and torture my wife and family if I did not co-operate, threats to kill me.?
Ok, so if I'm reading this right, he was forced to admit he ran the sites??? His wife says that someone used his profile to create the site and then he says in the letter that he was beaten and threatened to cooperate or as I'm assuming to admit his culpability. I'm confused... :upsidedow

CamJack 12-07-2010 10:27 AM
