So I bought this laptop today - am I an idiot?
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ef=oss_product
I will very likely swap out the 64GB solid state drive with a 128 or bigger and the 500GB with a 1 terabyte or whatever is biggest and available when the 500 gets close to capacity. - I am a hardcore data packrat. Been going back and forth about what laptop to replace my aging 1st gen unibody macbook pro with, I am much more productive with Win than I am with Mac. I divide my time between a number of locations and even countries so being able to move around is a consideration. I also am something of a gamer so being able to let off steam by laying zombie hordes to rest is also important. Considered going with something smaller and more portable, even thought about getting a macbook air for the portablility and pimping my desktop a little to do the heavy lifting but in the end I just want one PC to do everything and couldn't find anything better than this. If you had around 2 grand to spend on a laptop, what would you buy? |
you're an idiot.
|
Bet you id kick your ass in world of warcraft WHILE playing command and conquer at the sametime.
L3333333T you're an idiot. |

World of Warcraft is not my game. You can do that shit on a PII@300MHZ But I dont thing you could beat me at Command and Conquer, you would be QUAKEing in your boots as I sealed your DOOM and you would be a FAR CRY from winning even if I started with a HALF LIFE and leave you in the KILLZONE putting up a very weak RESISTANCE and that's about as long a sentence as I care to type right now. |

Machine specs look good, although I'd consider avoiding swapping the 64gb SSD for the larger SSD. It's already not exactly portable, why wouldn't you just use an external HDD?
|
I can't wait for the day when SSD becomes the standard for all laptops

I will give it a shot but I am pretty sure I will need more space on the system drive. I dont have the machine in my hands yet, Amazon still has to get it to my freight forwarder, who then has to get it through corrupt carribean customs agents. I am hoping they wont help themselves to a Christmas present from "the gringo" and am betting they are too dumb to know the diff between a laptop and a monitor. (last laptop I ordered online got taxed as a flat screen monitor by local customs - I laughed and paid) |

the problem is people now think they need 2TB of HDD space on their laptop to store 96MB pictures they take with their 16MP camera |
I think you'll love that laptop, I got the same thing, but without the solid state drive and I love it, it's a great laptop, I'm on it right now as a matter of fact. It can get a little hot while gaming, but it's sweet.
I had the same dilema as you, I wanted the best computer for around $2,000 and that's what I chose, the thing is a beast for size, but that's what I wanted :) |
very expensive , i would have bought custom made for this price.
anyways nice conf. u have there., get big ssd for just internal use and 1 big external for everything else/ NAS at home with backup so u dont have to carry external hdd. |
you're not an idiot...
you bought the good laptop... you're idiot for playing wow and burning your "real life" health on it... |

Weak spot seems to be the fan. The guy I gave my old one to as a gift had the fan cleaned this week and it started working as new. (I was unhappy with it as it got really hot, so much so that the keyboard had warped) I was looking at it and regretting having given it away, but I am happy for him that he has a great laptop. It's on it's 3rd battery, 2nd hard disk and 3rd power adaptor, 2nd backlight cathode but I know its still got some love to give. And for sure you can't beat the price. |

Toshiba's are one of the worst laptop/computer maker. But you're not fully an idiot because you still didn't go with Apple.
|

Stats seem nice and Its most likely cheaper than from the company its self.
|
if you need it then you are not :)
|
Very nice specs on It. I do fine with my i5 4gb ram for $800 though, almost 2k is a bit frisky for a laptop imo.
