Next time you crave a fast food burger.....

Remember this:

Most fast-food hamburger patties begin their voyage to your buns in the hands of a company called Beef Products. The company specializes in taking slaughterhouse trimmings?heads and hooves and the like?that are traditionally used only in pet food and cooking oil, and turning them into patties. The challenge is getting this byproduct meat clean enough for human consumption, as both E. coli and salmonella like to concentrate themselves in the fatty deposits.

The company has developed a process for killing beef-based pathogens by forcing the ground meat through pipes and exposing it to ammonia gas?the same chemical you might use to clean your bathroom. Not only has the USDA approved the process, but it's also allowed those who sell the beef to keep it hidden from their customers. At Beef Products? behest, ammonia gas has been deemed a ?processing agent? that need not be identified on nutrition labels. Never mind that if ammonia gets on your skin, it can cause severe burning, and if it gets in your eyes, it can blind you. Add to the gross-out factor the fact that after moving through this lengthy industrial process, a single beef patty can consist of cobbled-together pieces from different cows from all over the world?a practice that only increases the odds of contamination.

I love when misleading examples are given to evoke an emotional reaction.

HerPimp 12-29-2010 03:32 AM

Thanks for the heads up

u-Bob 12-29-2010 04:11 AM

So the government is banning raw milk, but big corporations exposing meat to toxic gas is ok?

Davy 12-29-2010 04:14 AM

Lucky me: I don't eat fast food.

ottopottomouse 12-29-2010 04:25 AM

Thanks. I want a Big Mac now.

DamianJ 12-29-2010 04:27 AM

Watch Food Inc for more about this. Great movie. Not as preachy as it sounds. Not as bad as Michael Moore etc.

CaptainHowdy 12-29-2010 04:47 AM

They kill animals to do fast food? I'm outraged!

Nicky 12-29-2010 05:02 AM

Usually when I crave a burger I go to the places that make their own from 100% pure Swedish ground meat. Don't mind paying a couple $ extra.

bns666 12-29-2010 05:20 AM

i don't eat almost anything with minced meat anyway, especially junk/fast food.

steaks & chops ftw :thumbsup

~Ray 12-29-2010 07:52 AM

Is that why my farts smell like Mr Clean?

JFK 12-29-2010 08:14 AM

someone posted the mixture for chicken here a few weeks ago:Oh crap:throwup

Nikki_Licks 12-29-2010 08:30 AM

My buddy worked in a process plant and he won't even touch the stuff. He went on to tell me all that goes into the process of making these burgers.....when we drive by a fast food hamburger place the smell about makes him puke, he says the process plant smells just like it or even worse.

Speaking of meats, they use carbon monoxide in the meat packing process to keep it looking red on the shelves longer....

i used to work in a slaughterhouse...that made burgers as well

i eat it all still...nothing better then steak though

i used to have to shave fat off of the sides of the cow....a big old triangle piece would come down, id grab it put it on a planer shave off some fat and send it on its way

goodtimes...except for the ex cons, who would throw meat at my head all day

sounds like some vegetarian propaganda.

What You Don't Know Won't Kill You.....Damn

NikKay 12-30-2010 02:28 PM

I'll still eat fast food occasionally but for home we've gone all organic/locally raised. I don't know why anyone would think this wasn't true. You're talking about billions in profits; they're going to cut all the corners they can and pay the government to go along for the ride.

PR_Glen 12-30-2010 02:37 PM

if there were harmful poisons in fast food the life expectancy numbers would be dropping like a rock considering more people eat fast food now more than ever... but they are not, they are going up...

its the saturated fats and cholesterol that are bad for you.. not how they prepare them...

bns666 12-30-2010 04:26 PM

processed food is just not healthy for many reasons, google about it.

Amputate Your Head 12-30-2010 04:35 PM

you are what you eat...

thus, if you eat crap.... :2 cents:

they also use special lights for the shelves that make the meat look better

but hey, the pics for the tours are usually also more photoshopped than the actual content, right? :winkwink:

nico-t 12-30-2010 07:29 PM

when you remove all sauces:
a mcdonalds big mac tastes like a mcchicken tastes like a quarter pounder tastes like mcnuggets.... no wait, mcnuggets are worse they are like dry pieces of cardboard.

craving for a whoppper now... or kfc... why is mcdonalds the most popular one in the world? because their neutral (=absolutely NO) taste.
