I didn't look to see how they are doing it.... but it can be done using css. They click, the layer shows, the url never has to change. You see it used more in menus, kinda fresh to see it done for a join form.

Correct, but you can ask the review sites, there are MANY professional porn surfers out there that would use a site like this. The review sites make their cash from repeat business. That traffic isn't implosive as they are savvy buyers.
