Godaddy

Went to register a new domain today and Godaddy is now charging $11.99 for a year. Sheesh! What happened to the good old $8.99 days?

Well, I went to http://register-domains-for-less.com/ and got that domain for $9.99 for a year.

It doesn't seem like much for one domain name, but if you own a couple of thousand domain names that's over $4,000 per year extra just in registration costs.

Check out www.DomainSalesTalk.com and click the banners (godaddy updates those banners with the lowest price available ) also do a search on google for the latest discount codes...you shouldnt need to pay more than around $7.50 - $7.75

Hope that helps

I registered a few discounted domains at GoDaddy recently and now have $4.99 rebills hitting my card each month, I'm still going through all my accounts to figure out which one I picked up the upsell on.

I like moniker and namecheap as well.. both have $9 domains all the time.

Look at the ones you registered really cheap like $1.49 or $1.99 etc as the discount code for those include adding a $4.99 deal to the cart and you have to remove it...

DaCaptain 01-19-2011 11:47 AM

Well $9.99 per year is still alot better than when I started online back in 1996 and used to pay $75 per domain name per year.

Domain Diva...I've tried things like that in the past with a low first year offer but then they always seem to charge you more the 2nd year and beyond to make up for it. It's just too time consuming to have to watch for things like that. I'll stick with that $9.99 deal per year that I got. I have most of my domains with godaddy, some with moniker, and the rest with register-domains-for-less (the most up front of the group, IMHO)... I don't see much difference between any of them, except for the sneaky pricing and upsells that I just don't have time to watch for.

Yo Adrian...yep, gotta watch for those check boxes. Although I don't think that Godaddy automatically checks them. Monikor is Ok, I met the owner a while back and he told me about a lot of innovations that they were coming out with. Seemed like a nice guy, and I do use them. I wasn't impressed at all with namecheap...nuff said.

always search for coupon codes first. they just make it a bit harder to get lower prices but you can still get them for under 8 bucks if you look around. if you have more than 1k domains you can also join their domain discount club that will give you 7.66 on both new regs and renewals but it costs 80 bucks to join.

google is your friend.

Become a reseller. Then you get them at the reseller price.

Up until the recent price rise at Godaddy it was actually cheaper to purchase domains at lower cost than having a reseller account ,now it might be worth looking at again in view of the $$$ increase.

Inter-Sex 01-19-2011 12:24 PM

Well, Godaddy must have won prices i'm sure...

For the most fucking confusing admin panel since the invention from the internet.:1orglaugh

bignasty 01-19-2011 12:52 PM

Do a google search for godaddy, click the links at the top(the paid link at the very top), if you do it that way it gives them to you for 7.49.

DaCaptain 01-19-2011 02:11 PM

Ok, now I'm just venting but Godaddy sucks!!! I used to have a large accounts rep assigned to me. I have multiple accounts, lots, with godaddy....just from having multiple online businesses over the last 14 years. Now, I need an account with 300 domains in it...i.e. not spread out over multiple accounts for the large accounts reps to deal with me.

IMHO Godaddy has gotten too big for their britches.

would you really trust a registrar that uses a .info domain? i wouldn't... i use big names like godaddy and moniker because they won't go under and steal your names like a lot of resellers have/could.

u-Bob 01-19-2011 03:14 PM

$9.99 is still very expensive.

Chosen 01-19-2011 03:31 PM

GoDaddy sucks anyway...

9.99 isn't a good price either.

Dude godaddy is horrible.

Check out www.ezdomainname.com or any host that offers registration is better. There is thousands of people that losts their domain to godady. One time they had me pay $200 fee for having a risky domain.

Find a better company quick.

BIGTYMER 01-19-2011 05:54 PM

I <3 GoDaddy

LiveDose 01-19-2011 05:56 PM

Go to google, type in Godaddy and you'll never pay full price.

18teens 01-19-2011 06:54 PM

I always use coupon codes and never pay full price.

fatfoo 01-19-2011 06:58 PM

The price increase is unfortunate. The costs sure add up if you are buying very many domains. You might think about trying to get a discount because you buy a product in bulk. Good luck, DaCaptain.

camperjohn64 01-19-2011 07:00 PM

Godaddy is a rip off. Moniker.com isn't

HomerSimpson 01-19-2011 07:23 PM

NameCheap.com :thumbsup

this site has a link for godaddy to get the discounted .com domains, just to clarify folks

marzzo 01-19-2011 08:09 PM

I don't like Godaddy much, but I just reg'd a new domain for $1.67 using discount code 'WINTER149' so I won't complain.

Adraco 01-19-2011 08:09 PM

Allright, I'm spending my 1000th post here with you on this topic.

Netfirms $4.95 code: PROMO495
Godaddy $7.49 code: gsfnsw07
Namecheap $9.28 code: NC2011

Get an account with Fabulous, fixed domain pricing, tiered after how many you have. Excellent control panel and good people to deal with. The highest price you pay is $9.49 and then down from there.

Otherwise, if you want to stay with Godaddy, get the discount domain club membership or become a reseller for yourself if you for some reason have multiple accounts spread around. Then you do not have to hunt for discount codes, but instead pay a yearly fixed membership fee and be done with it. Profitable when you have many domains.
