Depends on your bank, but normally there's a fee.

If you haven't got a dollar account I'd recommend Auction Chex in Southport, you send the $ cheque to them and they send a £ cheque back. They are fast and reliable

Notice no referral link, this is an honest recommendation

ahh I don't need £ cheque back, I need cash ! i'm from continental europe....

so, how long does it take to get cash from usd check or/ that £ cheque back (and later cash from it).. thx

depends on the amount actually, usually above ±$250 your bank waits for the check to clear at the US bank before you get your money, this takes between 14 to 45 days

below that amount you get that money in advance on reserve, meaning if the check bounces they deduct it again and you'll have to pay for the costs

Right, in which case, sometimes Auction Chex have sent your £ cheque back to you 2 days after you sent it to them. So you send on Monday, they receive on Tuesday, you receive back on Wednesday. Depends how busy they are, it can be a day or 2 more at times.

Once you get your £ cheque back, if you pay it into Lloyds it will go in immediately. If you were with another bank such as Santander it would take a week

Thanks Guys ! :)

It used to depend on how long you've been with the bank, how good your account is and how many times you've had a check from that company.

For years I had no problems getting a US check credited to my UK account right away. But never had the need to draw on that check right away as I was in credit at the bank.

Auctionchex rates are generally higher than my bank uses but it sounds like it may be a good option for you.

My bank takes a £7 charge for each check...

mineistaken 01-25-2011 09:10 PM

depends on the bank, shop around for the best rates

Auctionchex's exchange rate is pretty high but they can also pay the cash into your bank account rather than sending you out a converted cheque.

natwest cost about a tenner, but if you put a few from the same bank (same bank issuing the usd cheques) they seem to combine the cost sometimes. takes between a week and a month or so normally

The best way is to pay a few in, at one go as it will save you a bit.

banks can take up to 4 weeks or more to clear.

its worth looking at wire payments as its cheaper and quick.

Epass was great as payments went to your cash machine and you could just pull it out.

What are the charges for international wires from your bank?

What is the cheapest charge for a wire from one of your sponsors?

Barclays is the best thats i have come across one fee per batch so you could put 20 cheques in and its just a £10 fee also clears faster the UK issued cheques.

Hsbc and halifax charge per cheque and hsbc can take up to 2 week to put it on your account
