The Godfather

My GF was reading the book over the last weeks and this weekend we watched the movies because she never saw them.

I already saw them X times but its a piece of artwork.

Great movies with great actors :winkwink:

There are 2 sequel books, written by Mark Winegardner from Puzo's notes. They interweave with the original and all 3 movies. Both are enjoyable reads.

The Godfather Returns and Godfather's Revenge.

I'm, like, one of the only people on the planet who actually didn't like The Godfather and thought it was an overrated piece of crap. I found it incredibly boring and way too long. Crazy, huh? Feel free to shit on me. I get it that a lot when I tell people I didn't like the movie.

I haven't seen it in about ten years. Maybe I'll watch it again and I'll enjoy it more now than I'm older but I doubt it. I'm a huge (huge) Al Pacino fan so it's really odd that I didn't like The Godfather.

Sarah_Jayne 01-31-2011 08:13 AM

My husband has to be one of the few people on the planet never to have seen them. I even have them on DVD and he has no interest in watching them. One day, I will convince him that he is wrong.

some people are not fans of drama.. it has a flow more like a play than a movie really, which was pretty popular for the 70's which makes some, even really great pieces, looong and seem dull.

One trick is to not be sleepy when you watch them.. hehe I never liked them until i started paying attention more to what was going on.

fatfoo 01-31-2011 08:34 AM

It is an interesting movie to watch. The actors are talented.

brassmonkey 01-31-2011 08:39 AM

I have told him that I should have asked before we got married. I just assumed everybody over 30 has seen it.

Some of my favorite quotes...

Michael: It's not personal, Sonny. It's strictly business.

Calo: In Sicily, women are more dangerous than shotguns.

Michael: My father is no different than any powerful man, any man with power, like a president or senator.
Kay Adams: Do you know how naive you sound, Michael? Presidents and senators don't have men killed.
Michael: Oh. Who's being naive, Kay?

Clemenza: Leave the gun. Take the cannoli.

Hazlewood 01-31-2011 11:19 AM

Greatest trilogy of all time. 2 was better than 1 which is never the case except in the Rocky series. 2 was Robert Deniro's intro to the world and he kicked ass playing Don Vito as a young man.

Did you know? Johnny Ola in part 2 is the same actor that plays Junior Soprano.

They are awesome, still in the IMDB's TOP 10.

docputer 01-31-2011 12:06 PM

My wife has not seen the movie's. Unless it is a chick flick, or has dragons or vampires, she isn't really interested.
I rented all three to watch on a weekend, and after about 10 minutes, she said she would rather watch something else.

I throw the Toy Story trilogy in as a rival. Not one of the three Toy Story movies is anything but top class.
