404 Error - 43% in stats!?

I'm getting a lot of 404 Errors in my stats, but there are no dead links on my site. Is this something I need to be concerned about? How does your percentage of 404 errors compare?

Maybe a broken image somewhere?

Most 404 errors are coming from robots.txt

Seems like a good idea ;)

Also, you can get 404's if some other website is linking to a page on your website that doesn't exist.

Capture the referring url on your 404 pages and have it email you the url's... then if you do have any real 404's, you can say on top of them with ease.

Here's an article on doing it within Wordpress using PHP, it works without wp as well, just toss it the code into your 404 page.
