amplify computer speaker output?

Can anyone recommend a good way to amplify the audio that comes out of my computer?

Is there a really simple amp I can buy that just boosts volume from a 1/8th audio jack? (or I suppose I could use a converter to make it into 1/4")

I just want something that takes audio from my computer, boosts the volume, and then outputs to speakers either via 1/8" or speaker ports.

Or do I just need a new sound card?

Thanks for any recommendations.

Just buy a cheap receiver and some nice stereo speakers, then use one of these cables.

Or if you have a digital audio output on your computer that would be better.

It's a device called an 'amp'.

Um, why not buy a 2.1 speaker set. It does exactly what you want and sounds good.

Agreed, I bought a 2.1 set for my son for christmas.. a nice deal from £50 to £20 as the last set in the shop. They are clear & sound good. Unless its dolby theater as most pcs & laptops are now, then a 5.1 speaker set up would be best & can be bought at a good price in the sales.
