Anyone Here Got Sick At The Playboy Mansion?

Can the Playboy Mansion make you ill? Hugh Hefner's iconic bachelor pad is under investigation after more than 80 guests at a conference and party there became sick with a suspected strain of Legionnaires' disease.
Scores of attendees at the Domainfest conference in Santa Monica, held Feb. 1 to 3, came down with symptoms including fever, respiratory infections and violent headaches. Four Swedish guests were diagnosed with Legionellosis or pontiac fever -- a milder form of Legionnaires' caused by bacteria that thrives in warm air-conditioning systems.

The bacteria grow best in warm water, like the kind found in hot tubs, cooling towers, hot water tanks, large plumbing systems, or parts of the air-conditioning systems of large buildings. Indoor ornamental fountains have been confirmed as a cause of Legionnaires' disease outbreaks, in which submerged lighting as a heat source was attributed to the outbreak in all documented cases.[citation needed] Controlling the growth of Legionella in ornamental fountains is touched on in many of the listed guidelines. However, specific guidelines for ornamental fountains have also been published

A Playboy rep claimed, "There is no truth in the rumor that anyone caught anything at the Playboy Mansion. Nor is there any evidence. None of the Playboy staff became ill, the deejay was in the middle of the fog and she didn't get ill. We have been contacted by the Health Department and the Playboy Mansion is cooperating fully with the investigation."
If the staff didn't get sick, I wouldn't be so quick to point fingers at Playboy.

Legionnaires' disease is bad news. When I was a kid, one of my friends parents went to Las Vegas to a bowling convention. They both got it. One almost died.

I also wouldnt jump to believe a playboy rep after 80 guest who were together at 1 place got the same sickness.

Also, This is the NY post we are talking about. They are quick to point fingers as much as they can. Its kind of a mix between gossip and real news. And this being on 'Page 6' which is there famous Gossip column. I wouldnt be surprised about anything being said before they have proof

You'd think that if there was something wrong at the Mansion, that others would be affected besides the domain conference attendees..

ShellyCrash 02-12-2011 11:20 AM

If they were all at the same hotel that could also be the cause.

Legionaires is serious biz. I had an old coworker catch it, was on a vent and in a coma for 3 months.

i would imagine the correlation is pretty simple, you have multiple people ill, you simply find a place they all were at the same time. If they were all at the same hotel lets say i would think that would be highlighted first.

The type of disease was coined and has had outbreaks primarily at the conferences themselves in the past.

I caught Legionnaire's last November when changing an old hot water tank - nasty shit I can tell you first hand! I've now got sinus infections that the doc says are complications from that. pffft.

Knowing the NY Post. I would have to agree with you here. I am sure this is not the only place these people were together in the time of the convention. I doubt they have evidence that is what the actual Mansion where the disease was tracked down to.

You have to keep it in context. This is "Page Six", Playboy Mansion grabs alot more headlines that Comfort Suites.
