UN Israeli Settlements Decision Coming Soon

Just saw on CNN that they're about to have a vote that would make the Israeli settlements illegal.

What do you guys think the US will vote? Will they vote yes they should be illegal after all of their talk condemning them? Will they abstain from voting letting the rest of the world deal with it?

Or will they do what they usually do, give Israel their support unconditionally and veto the decision over the will of the rest of the world?

Dun dun dunnnn

seeandsee 02-18-2011 01:09 PM

i really don't understand what they are vote

Kiopa_Matt 02-18-2011 01:35 PM

They're already illegal, and Israel has already given the international community the middle finger many times, so what's another vote going to accomplish?

Totally useless...

moeloubani 02-18-2011 02:07 PM

The funny thing is you guys are right - the only thing this accomplishes is making the US more hated around the world because they have to stick up for Israel's bullshit again. This is why there is terrorism against the US - not religion, not anything else.

If only that were the case. It's the United States that does Israel's dirty work. Iraq/Iran/Afghanistan are all rooted in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Young American men and women die in huge numbers while the Israeli military suffers almost no casualties.

Decision coming now: looks like it will be a US veto, once again showing the United States is Israel's little bitch.

Edit: Yep, they vetoed it. Fucking hell, you guys still haven't had enough?? How pathetic that the US is still sticking up for these fucking Israeli terrorist religious extremists. And what do you get out of it? Dead sons and daughters.

40 yes votes, and the only person that voted no was the US. Fucking hell.

i have to disagree...

the middle east is a very unstable region.. we go to war there to protect corporate interests like oil and other raw materials..

when the oil is gone, there will be no more war in the middle east... :2 cents:

The instability of the Middle East though lies in the support that the US gives Israel which draws a sharp division between two groups of people: those that support the US (the minority) and those that are against the US (the majority). The US and Israel pour money into the minorities to make them look bigger and up until recently they have been in power. But now we are seeing these uprisings as the majority is sick of these US propped puppet leaders.

Arabs aren't monsters, and they are open to trading with the rest of the world. The issue is that the United States' support for Israel makes enemies of those Arabs and therefore the idea of selling fuel to your enemy isn't so alluring to them.

{Psycho} 02-18-2011 02:37 PM

Good to hear

Rochard 02-18-2011 03:04 PM

Um, why are they having a vote about anything. The new settlements are in fact illegal. It's not even a question at this point.

And the whole world knows it. The only people propping up Israel is the US and it sucks to see because there is so much potential in the US.

Why are you guys throwing it all away to become enemies of the world? For what?

40 Countries said that they were illegal, compared to just the US vetoing. And people blame all this hate towards America on religion or something when it's obviously just the US being dick wads.

blackmonsters 02-18-2011 05:49 PM

It won't mean shit, because nobody will do shit after Israel flips the finger at it all.

The only thing Israel ever gets or gives for it's crimes is "lip service".

Sorry Moe, looks like you're going to have to continue to peddle your bullshit propaganda for some more time. Looks like I underestimated Obama.. He finally learned that there some US policies he can't interfere with, whether he wanted to or not.

Mostly right. There is more to the Middle East than just oil. Even if you completely tapped the land for resources, then entire area is still a pivotal strategic point to hold on the map. It's the center of a huge land mass, with a massive population. There's a fuck ton of money in building a modernized future for the area. To move in, and get a foothold in the region's infrastructure is worth far more than all the oil they can suck out of the ground. Ensuring the contracts for building and maintaining that infrastructure go to US developers puts billions and billions in the pockets of American corporations, and a whole lot of negotiating power...

baddog 02-19-2011 01:40 AM

Like the UN has any power.

Ohhh, the US has been doing that for decades. Where do you think Saudi Arabia got all of its infrastructure back in the 60s and 70s? The US would loan Saudi Arabia money, who then used it to pay US contractors to build infrastructure. Hell of a deal of the US and corporations.

There's a book called "Confessions of an Economic Hitman", written by a guy who basically negotiated deals to rape and pillage countries. One of the largest endeavours the US undertook was Saudi Arabia, hence why there's still currently almost never any disputes with them as an ally. It's a good read. :)

The US getting in with the House of Saud is their shining example. I read the book a while back.

There will still be wars there. Just no one in the West will give a shit.

As for the Israelis stopping building because the UN says so. BULLSHIT.

They are building on the command from God.

Well that's what they said he said. :Oh crap

The United States does not get it's oil from the Middle East. The two biggest importers of oil to the US is Canada and Mexico.

We tend to think of the Middle East as "the place that supplies our oil" but that's not correct. All the Middle East has is oil, it's the only export they really have. But very little of it comes to the US.

Did you just equate the arab nations to "the world"? LOL

Completely baseless assumption. You're saying Israel is the problem when it's the Arab nations.

No, just the UN security council.

The US was the lone no vote.

Do you even know what is being discussed in this thread?

LOL.. Great rationalization. Other than the big ballers, I'm sure I pay my taxes in order to keep your ass eating, especially with your intellect. Furthermore, you conveniently don't mention the fact that I've repeatedly stated many of the people in this industry are very intelligent, it's just the 99% of you(including yourself) are not. Now quit lying to yourself and learn how to read.

Yup.. Can you even follow a simple discussion? You equated arabs to the whole world. Now you're equating the security council to the whole world? Since you're a buffoon, let's see if you can get this question correct. How many countries exist on the planet? Go on, wikipedia it. Now, question #2, would 14 countries be considered the whole world? Whether you answered yes or no is irrelevant, you can't even follow a simple discussion.

As a Palestinian I appreciate the support the world is starting to give us, and if the United States could support us and do what is right then I think the whole world would just be a better place all around.
