Please criticize... Me...
Right before i'm going away for a week tomorrow, so it'll be like beating a dead horse :1orglaugh
So this's the last site we've launched: http://www.porno.ws/ which i'm going to flood with traffic and links Most ppl say it got ridiculously bad usability just like Signbucks Daily I've been working hard at Signbucks Daily over the last few years, lots of stuff got changed and modified, but i still hear complaints from webmasters that the site isn't easy to navigate for them and they can't find literally anything there The initial idea was that the site is for webmasters which is wise ppl, so it's shouldn't be easy but full of data. But it didn't work out ) So there's a problem and it's huge - I can't create sites with any good usability. I'm thinking about ordering a brand new design from professionals, but the only thing i don't get is how they can deal with tons of specialized data, how can they get a clue how should they be represented on the site if i don't have any over the years :upsidedow So please guys. Take a look at both sites and let me know what's not good and how can i change it. I'm looking forward to have it completely redesigned Any tips on creating good usability sites are also welcome ;) |
Navigation is a bitch for me too and thank god I dont design sites any more. Sounds like you have the "I know where I am going and know how to find it' syndrome that I have which blinds us to seeing potential problems in navigating a page that we set up.
get a friend (that won't blow smoke up your backside) to look at the site and write down where they stumble or fall... non-industry friends work well for this, then offer them some sort of payment for their troubles :2cents |
i have to agree with what they have told you - the usability is not good at all.
Just like with signupbucksdaily - when i go to the site im overloaded with a shit ton of text and i have no clue what direction to take |
way to busy. keep it simple.

I have definitely been frustrated with handling of my specific niches. I think it maybe has to do with when you add a site to your system vs. when you add a niche tag. Not sure, but like SpookyCash has somewhere between 0 and 1 listing in tags like tattoo, rock, goth, extreme hair, etc. when SpookyCash has a lot of sites perfect for that traffic. And, if I don't know the difference between punk (FETISH) and punk (WIDE FETISH), I'm guessing most webmasters would be baffled by the distinction. It might make more sense, from both a usability perspective and an admin one, to have fewer tags but with very complete listings in each. Another suggestion I would make is to have the listings in longer categories rotate or be listable in more ways than just most recent, as the current format often means the best and biggest sites in many niches are at the end because they are the ones you thought of first, when entering data.

regarding signbucksdaily - just make some normal (usable) category system with filters/niche/subcategory stuff, thats all it needs
I used it to locate a bunch of ccbill progs and it took me ages to do so, with better navigation and category filters it would've been a lot easier now that I think of it, you owe me money for at least 2 hours of browsing time you could have saved me, where do I bill ya? :) |
waaaaaaay too busy. I opened the page and instantly decided I don't care what the site is about. You always gotta remember your surfer is there to look at porn and masturbate, not to read a novels' worth of text on the left side and see "Processing Thumb" all over the place.
if you MUST have those processing thumb pics, sort the output so they appear last instead of first. On the tube section, you have your videos linking direct to the FLV files instead of to a tube video page. |
I love sites like yours, unfortunately I'm not the majority of people out there. You've micro-niched the shit out of everything, which is awesome for me, not awesome for others. On porno.ws you have 95 categories on the left sidebar, more categories on the top menu bar, and even sub categories for those.
I would say don't be afraid to be more general and let the users explore to find what they're looking for. If they want pee videos, let them go through the fetish page category to find them or use a search function. |
It's fucking awful. First step is to scrap the entire site and start over.
I'm telling you as a designer who designs all my sites purely based on usability your entire site is a disaster. |

check Twan directories, clean simple fast style!

horrible..
|
Filtering categories visually (small photo or drawing) brings in more sales than with text
|
too much all at once for me.
|
btw read some articles on usability and user experience.
|
thx guys
i'm going to share some ideas after your posts once i get back |
I have found Signbucks Daily to be a very useful site. Many thanks to you. :)

Find your ($) focal point and work your way down from large to small. WAY too much going on there.

It's looks good, but for me I hate sites that have too much anything. I like a simple path to what I am looking for.
Maybe throw some of the links and content in the footer and just focus on the what you are trying to show your visitors. Also just playing with the colors can make certain things stand out better and leave the other not so important content behind a little. |
