Bill Shock: What's the biggest Cell phone bill...

Carriers have been fucking us over with data plans for years now. I've had bills in the USA over $1,500 and in Asia far worse.

I finally turn the data off when roaming. It's just not worth it, but it's such a convenient option. I hate worrying about checking a site and it costing a fortune.

FCC to vote on (reasonable rates) mandatory wireless data roaming

They need to come up with an international unlimited roaming option that's reasonable.

Yeah Ive been hit with some doozies. I turn data off now and wait til I get to a computer or wifi. It aint worth it.

Why 04-06-2011 05:24 PM

i get unlimited data now, but one time i went out of state years ago and got a $650 bill, that was pretty shitty.

Rochard 04-06-2011 09:33 PM

I've always had unlimited data plans so I'm good.

$1200 when I was 21 and in college with no money. I had Qwest. They had $700 in billing mistakes though on it. I eventually paid off the $500 and got a better plan. I have now been with tmobile for 10 years.

Big Bills

I used to work at big effin' big cell phone company. Girl in next cube would spend her days making this call, "Mr. X, I'm sorry you went to XYZ store and when the clerk tried to pay your bill, when they hit the ENTER button, they got "no transaction." Then unfortunately, the clerk repeatedly, hit the ENTER key, which resulted in your checking account being billed not once but multiple times. This caused your checking account to be overdrawn and checks overdrawn. We will return the money and send you a letter you can show your bank & where you bounced a check that it was our fault. We will also cover your bad check fees"
Good luck, the grocery store will never take your check again. Average bounce was close to $1000.

think it was 2100 or 2300.. spent 3 weeks in Vegas and had to use the phone to get a few things done...
Now I pay $50 USD a month unlimited data, text and local calls (on 2 phones)

how the fuck? you pay for incoming calls over there?

PR_Glen 04-07-2011 05:55 AM

i bet there aren't many of us that haven't been gouged on a phone bill at least once. americans seem to have better plans than the rest of the world though. Canada is still jacking everyone, i have a minimalist plan on mine and i refuse to surf on it for that reason.

CurrentlySober 04-07-2011 06:05 AM

i cant afford a phone...

Emil 04-07-2011 06:21 AM

I only prepay for my cellphone...
The other day I received a warning that if I didn't refill it my number would expire, so I had paid $40 11 months ago and haven't refilled it since.
I hate talking on the phone.

I just got hit for £1450 (GBP) for 4 days use on my 3g modem on a business trip to Australia.

I was expecting and quite happy to pay £3-400.

The worst thing about all of these data roaming bills is that NONE of this money ends up with the network in the country that you have visited.

It all stays with your home network that you have your contract with.

There is no interconnect agreement system for data. (the international interconnect agreement shares revenue form international calls between the country you are calling from and the country you a re calling to) This DOES NOT EXIST FOR DATA.

$750 or so. Was using my blackberry to view my security cameras over the Internet. Didn't realize I was on some crazy plan bell gave me where I was only allowed 4 mb. (Not a typo, that mb, not gb).

I don't understand why they can't just give everyone unlimited plans. Bell doesn't even offer them. Now I get like 500 MB for $35 and it goes up $10 for every GB you use after that, which is more reasonable, but still ridiculous. Thankfully my new phone supports wi-fi.

my biggest bill was a couple years ago, we had AT&T and were in Mexico, and used the phone just a few times, but sent emails all the time from it. Got home and the following month our bill was $600+ when it was normally $90 to $100

the key is to get a shitty phone. then it will be too much of a pain in the ass to use the net on it.

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 04-07-2011 07:39 AM

Had a couple top off at around $600. After that i said fuck it, got a shitty flip and put it on pay and talk. Then I wound up spending damn near as much for less usage. Finally I smartened up and went back to a monthly plan and just stopped using my cell like a 14 year old girl.
